Of course military force could be used as part of a strategy to defeat or remove Hamas from power. However, the current Israeli govt. has made it abundantly clear that they prefer Hamas over any viable alternative.

The resumption of war will kill the remaining hostages as well as untold numbers of Palestinian civilians.

Hamas on the other hand, will likely emerge relatively unscathed.

Their losses will be replaced almost instantaneously and they will salvage unexploded ordinance to re-arm.

If anything, Gazans should relocate to the West Bank while Gaza is rebuilt.

Refugee camps should be set up on evacuated settlements deep in the WB.

A win-win since these settlements are obstacles to peace.

Look at the settlements (red) between Ramallah and Nablus for example.

Historians are not known to be radical, the AHA is a conservative organisation. The resolution was not radical by any means, but the fact it passed so overwhelmingly says something about a sea change among the intelligentsia.

Among other reasons, Netanyahu is keeping this war going because it benefits him. He knows that the moment it's over so is his career. Israelis hate him and want him gone, but are so committed to the war that they aren't pushing him out.
