TBR Challenge: Fool’s Errand April’s theme prompt for Super Wendy’s #TBRChallenge 2026 was “Fool’s Errand.” Here are the books we chose to tackle our TBRs this month. Holly Read: Unveiled by Courtney Milan (2011) The Turners, Book #1 Why was this book on your TBR? I’ve read a handful of Milan’s books and enjoyed them, so I keep an eye out for them. Pretty sure I found this one at a used book store.

It's TBR Challenge day! This month's prompt was "Fool's Errand," and you KNOW that people in romance novels never do anything foolish.

Let’s Talk Archetypes: Widows and Widowers Bottom line: Do you like the widow/er archetype? Erin: I definitely went through a phase where I really, really did. Lately the ones I’ve picked up haven’t been hitting quite right with the balance of past love/new love, so it’s a tricky one to pull off. Ingrid: I can’t say I’ve ever thought that I specifically enjoyed the trope just on its own.

Today and the blog, the Smut Report team is talking about widows and widowers

This was not the plan (I mean, it was totally the plan), but we timed this perfectly for us picking what books we'll be reading for the #TBRChallenge.

Series Review: Lady of Darkness by Melissa Roehrich (2021–2025) Heat Factor: It’s a slow burn but there is heat from multiple relationship plots Character Chemistry: It has very fated mates and world dominion takeover partners vibes Plot: Scarlett is a miserable assassin who is being forced to play nice in society until she meets the new trainer for the king’s elite forces, and obviously nothing is as it seems, powers collide, acceptance of darkness, etc, etc…

Series Review: Lady of Darkness by Melissa Roehrich

This one isn't covering any new ground—but if you like Romantasy, it's fun and engaging and has great characters, so why not?

So much so that she has, over the past few years, put together at least 4 other listicles centered on MM hockey books (and the occasional MF hockey book).

In chronological order:

When I said that Erin has been obsessed with Heated Rivalry for years, I mean reading it meant that she then read ALL the M/M hockey romances.

(Before we started the blog, she read Regency Dukes Only. Look how far we've come!)

This message brought to you by A Wicked Bargain for the Duke by Megan Frampton, which features the biggest ding dong and is also an utter delight

Emotionally constipated ding dongs make for the best romance novels.

I suspect it's partially because the details about a character tells us a lot about that character—and I'm not sure what being obsessed with the Brontes says about a person.

Thinking this morning about the book characters in romance novels read.

And I want to know: where are the heroines in Victorian romances who are reading the Brontes?

Plenty of histrom folks reading "the latest by Miss Austen" or Pamela or a made up gothic romance.

If you haven't read it, A Lady for All Seasons by TJ Alexander (f/nb historical romance) features Byron heavily (in a delightful and complicated way).

Review: While You Were Seething by Charlotte Stein (2026) Heat Factor: Female ejaculation levels of pleasure Character Chemistry: Awkward weirdos with extra special sauce Plot: Redemption road trip to save his career gets extra exciting when you have that much chemistry with your travel buddy Overall: Maximum angst

Review: While You Were Seething by Charlotte Stein

If the only thing by Stein you've read is When Grumpy Met Sunshine, please be aware that this book is less funny and way more angsty. But just as sexy.

Series Review: Morelli Family by Leighton Greene (2020-2022) Heat Factor: Essential and explicit Character Chemistry: The darkness in me loves the darkness in you, but I also see your light Plot: The members of the Morelli family have to stay alive (and out of jail) through a coup, attacks from rival families, an FBI sting, and more! Overall: Is it healthy? Probably not, but this is one excellent series if you really want to hit all those mafia romance beats.

This was actually our 69th episode, but we didn't realize that when we were recording. A missed opportunity to do something ridiculous.

Review: The Legacy Series by Melissa Roehrich (2023 – 2025) Heat Factor: Pretty high heat, but it's a bit of a slower burn in the first book. Character Chemistry: In the beginning it feels like there’s zero chemistry and it’s really challenging to lock in, but it pulls through in the end. Plot: Tessa is unexpectedly chosen as the Source for the Arius Kingdom Heir and it’s very much against her will.

Series Review: The Legacy Series by Melissa Roehrich

Ingrid struggled with some of the journey, but the destination was worth it.

To enjoy, you must be ok with a heroine who is an uncontrollable hot mess. You must also be ok with a throuple situation.

Tumblereads: Reading Old Books aka culture shifts and reader preference shifts and how they play together. Show Notes: SuperWendy hosts the TBR Challenge, which we’ve been doing for several years. Ingrid recently read Warrior’s Song by Catherine Coulter (or at least the first chapter) for said challenge. Pride and Prejudice and its many film adaptations (not even including the ones set in more modern times).

This week on Tumblereads, we're talking about Old Books and whether and how they hold up.

(The answer is, always, it depends.)
