Blue and pink aurora borealis (northern lights) in the very high atmosphere above the arctic region, photographed from the shadow part of the Earth near latitude 53 North.

Blue and pink aurora borealis (northern lights) in the very high atmosphere above the arctic region, photographed from the shadow part of the Earth near latitude 53 North.

Deep in the forest, a faint glow of northern lights.

Our night is dark but the arctic is bathing in sunlight.

By resonance scattering in the very high atmosphere, nitrogen aurora reflects blue sunlight towards us.

And when this travels through curtains of red oxygen aurora, a lovely pink appears.

The pink layer is called "Belt of Venus" and the dark layer underneath it, near the horizon, is actually the Earth's shadow.

These phenomenae were described in detail by Professor Marcel Minnaert in "Light and Color in the Outdoors". (Natuurkunde van het vrije veld) www.dbnl.org/tekst/minn00...

No, we’re not on Mars.

These barchan (barkhan) sand dunes formed on the beach when a strong and steady wind blew for a weeks, coming from just one direction.

The barchans travelled 3 meters per day and after a night without wind, a thin layer of sublimated water ice formed on the surface.

A sunny day in spring, a layer of warm air hangs over cold sea water.

Mirages appear, far away ships become distorted and a mysterious island floats over the horizon.
Perhaps this is where the Lady Morgan lives?

Some folklorists think that the “Yellow Brick Road” leading to the Land of Oz was inspired by reflection of light from the rising Moon over Lake Michigan, as seen from the Chicago waterfront.

Luckily Bluesky has an easy way to turn off direct messages (DM); like turning off your doorbell when you’re not expecting anyone.
(rtfm), keep the blue skies clear 😉.

Somehow this photograph of sand waves on the beach reminds me of the London-Berlin techno music of the early 1990's.

Just a base rhythm, some distortion and a massive amount of air pressure.

Absorption of Solar Radiation by Noctilucent Clouds in a Changing Climate Noctilucent clouds (NLC) are ice clouds in the summer mesopause region at middle and polar latitudes The expected methane related increase in water vapor at NLC heights will lead to more and larg...

In recent years NLC’s have been observed more often and brighter.

A recent American Geophysical Union (AGU) publication shows that the greenhouse gas methane (CH4) might be responsible as it adds water vapour to the atmosphere due to solar radiation.

Timelapse of Noctilucent Clouds (NLC)
at dawn, reflecting sunlight near a height of 80 km (50 miles).

These night-shining clouds only appear when this part of the high atmosphere - the upper mesosphere - gets cold enough to form tiny crystals of water ice.

But if you look at the simulation, you'll notice that all virtual particles have the same length or time of existence and this is clearly in contradiction with the idea of random fluctuations of energy.
So the simulation only illustrates the QM principle that empty space is not empty.

Near the Planck scale, space and time are thought to loose their classical meaning due to the Heisenberg principle. One idea behind the simulation was to show the "graininess" of space-time at submicroscopic scale, and then you could say that the diameter of the virtual particles equals ℓP.

Hi, I would be honoured to be listed in your starter pack. I'm from the Netherlands, and my work has been shown at music and art festivals, in museums and in cinema documentaries. Main fields are tidal zone landscape, particle physics and high atmosphere phenomenae. Thanks in advance!

Empty space isn’t empty at all.
Quantum Physics shows that even a pure vacuum fluctuates with tiny amounts of energy or virtual particles moving in and out of existence.

As a creative experiment, we made a conceptual simulation of a sea of virtual particles near a depth of the Planck length.

And here is how the empty space simulation was made in Adobe After Effects with the use of the Trapcode Particular plug-in.

The workflow is similar to designing audio samples.
Take two harmonic oscillators - Emitter and Aux System - and let them interact until a useful output appears.

You find Maram grass on coastal dunes where it catches wind blown sand and keeps the dunes intact as the roots of the plant go meters deep.

First time I see this sort of great footage; a wasp cam showing caring animals, tiny as they are, keeping everything clean, removing waste, being around for 100 million years or so ...

Wow, this is not only an excellent loop but also just beautiful. Reminds me of Philip K. Dick's short stories: intriguing, entrtaining and also pretty scary.
