I'm a believer in smart policy, but all the finger-pointing in the LA firestorm about hydrant flows and LAFD budgets seems like arguing about the adequacy of Hiroshima's 1945 building code standards. It's a way to evade the big questions.

If you haven’t made time for @aaron.bsky.team’s conversation with @katieharbath.bsky.social about how he’s approaching @safety.bsky.app, I recommend it.
There’s a transcript if you want to read.
Composable moderation & what #BlackSky is doing is fascinating.
So is @bsky.app calls vs ATProtocol.
Wrote down the process to build your own custom feeds for Bluesky programmatically in Python and run it 100% free
Uses @skyfeed.app + @github.com actions to do periodic filtering and re-ranking and @cloudflare.social static pages to provide data to @bsky.app
Facebook notification reads: Some notifications now have sound. You can change this in the notification settings. (The notification settings are not hyperlinked.)
So rude and annoying, plus it reads as pushy and desperate.
Not to mention this on Facebook the other day — like “by the way we decided some of your notifications will make sounds now but you can hunt for the settings to change it back if you want”
I have similar thoughts and wonder about delivering some sort of mini tutorial on how to hold a microphone, get to the point, and ask before providing feedback…
Nicely done @jay.bsky.team .

The paperclip assistant from Microsoft Word is asking "Hey, it looks like you're waiting for ideal conditions to do that thing you've been wanting to do. Need I remind you that ideal conditions do not exist and will never happen?"
4) Learn to live with social complexity. If you write off the possibility of persuading your fellow citizens, fascists win by default. In practice fascist ideologues are few, but people think they can ride that tiger for their own purpose. Read Sarah Ahmed’s organization of hate. Weaponize love.
A Canadian non-profit organization called MediaSmarts exists for this reason but media literacy really should be part of school curricula everywhere.

@shanetobin.shakedown.social.ap.brid.gy I was just looking to see if the Guggenheim was on here (digging the new visual identity!) and your profile came up. Funny enough, I played a couple of local gigs through So Far last year. Anyway, looks like I’m your first follower now. Cheers!
My partner texted me this news story this morning and it made my day.
I wonder if there’ll be an educational angle to it. 🤔
I also read somewhere that most teens are regularly exposed to #misinformation and conspiracy theories via social media but aren’t receiving any training in media literacy…

I'm going to start with this:
"Sometimes we are blessed with being able to choose the time, and the arena, and the manner of our revolution, but more usually we must do battle where we are standing."

ALT text copied and pasted from the linked website: An infographic titled “How To Write Alt Text” featuring a photo of a capybara. Parts of alt text are divided by color, including identify who, expression, description, colour, and interesting features. The finished description reads “A capybara looking relaxed in a hot spa. Yellow yuzu fruits are floating in the water, and one is balanced on the top of the capybara’s head.”
