Im attending my 1st Eastercon (& my 1st SF/F convention) this weekend.
Friday was 3 for 4 in terms of panels mentioning Terry Pratchett.

I always forget just how popular Pratchett was, even at events full of fans of SFF.

Your mileage may vary on how long you can listen to me talk. I get it. But... Granny Weatherwax vs vampires! Pratchett vs fascism! Verence vs Big Aggie's brose! Mark vs keeping me on topic!

Carpe Jugulum is dark, weird, creepy and hilarious. Hope we did it justice.

Bloody hell! Seriously, there is a recording of me quoting a bit from The Last Continent and my guest pointed out that it was a subversion of Tiger Tiger Burning Bright...

I think only Pratchett got all of his puns.

3 weeks ago 1 0 0 0

@discworldorder.bsky.social I just saw a post elsewhere about a PTerry pun I never got; Selachii and Venturi as the two feuding families of Ankh Morpork - Selachii is the taxonomic name for sharks, the Venturi Effect is how jet engines work.

Sharks & Jets. It's a sodding West Side Story joke!

If you don't, then this is a hint.

Yes, this statue was in my hotel when I was on holiday.

No, I did not know this when I booked the hotel.

Well, the next episode of Discworld Order will see me do more research than I've done before for an episode: 2 books, 1 film, and some extra video watching.

I managed to get a reference to failed Aberdeen winger Jeffrey de Vischeer into this podcast, which is presumably a first.

Chatting Discworld with Mark is always a pleasure and you should all give it a listen!

In times like these, I desperately recommend reading Terry Pratchett.

It's an instant balm for my anxiety and depression with all the world's current events.

Over the last few weeks, I've read 2-4 Discworld books a week, and it has significantly improved my mental health.

Such was the case today, and yes, I was talking about Discworld.

I can see your point, but I think that Pratchett probably doesn't do it enough for it to stick for me. That scene at the first gig in the Drum does have a great des riptide.

And yes, everyone has different perspectives on books and what clicks for them.
