One audience member turned out to be too old and frail for the packed, hot, sweaty club and was taken away by paramedics after they passed out. When will that be me? (Most likely, my bad back prevent me from attending before it gets to that point. Standing up for a few hours tonight was no picnic.)

I usually prefer my Robyn Hitchcock solo but it was nonetheless a rare treat to see him with a full electric band tonight at the Horseshoe. That slippery, paranoid groove in "Insanely Jealous" really popped. Also nice to hear "Flesh No. 1", which I don't think I've ever seen him play live before.

Curious if anyone who complained about the "self-seriousness" of Nick Cave voted for Opeth here? Or does Opeth dodge that designation by being potentially (unintentionally, I presume) camp?

Future generations of Canadians will no longer understand these lyrics to the Sloan song "Coax Me":

If I drink concentrated OJ
Can I think Consolidated's okay?
It's not the band I hate, it's their fans
Three cans of water perverts me

It finally happened - my local grocery story has run out of their last stock of frozen orange juice, which is being discontinued in Canada. Pour one out for concentrated OJ, a convenient and less bulky way to store a beloved breakfast beverage. 🫡

I tend to sing that to the tune of “American Pie”, myself.

There used to be a Wilco-themed sandwich shop in Toronto named Sky Blue Sky. Good sandwiches, each named after a Wilco song, though the shop had a tendency to get backed up with orders, I had to get there early before the lunch rush or stand in a long line. Does Slipknot have a sandwich shop?

I didn't catch up with it until a few years ago, so it didn't have the formative effect on me his other work did, but it definitely fits right into his whole aesthetic project.

When I found all this out, a line connecting these data points lit up in my brain and suddenly it all made perfect sense.

If memory serves, the video was directed by Stephen Sayadian, also the man behind the art porno film Cafe Flesh and a former art director at Hustler magazine.

The student unions at many colleges and universities if you extrapolate from my experience and that of my wife.

I think these three may have been the only ones I bought around that time. Switched to vinyl when I got a turntable soon after, switched briefly back to cassette when I got a walkman, then back to vinyl and taped my records as you did.

My first 3 cassettes, purchased together at the local department store's music section.

Mackinac Island in Michigan, a rite of passage for grade 8 students of Northern Heights P.S. in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada for years. I can still bring to mind the comingled scent of fudge and horse manure. (Film content: Somewhere in Time was shot there.)

Another exciting Toronto Sceptres game today, though taking until the last minute to score a second goal (and empty netter at that) kept things a little too close for comfort. Nice to attend a winning game for a change!

Absolutely correct.

I instantly recognized the album from this image without looking at Kent's text. Good job!

Wow! I've been trying to organize a trip to see The Feelies for years now since I know they're never coming up this way. This would have been a great opportunity, but I can't swing it. Hope you have a great time!

Makes sense given his role as script editor on the series. Faithful adaptations were largely what the fans wanted!

Oh yeah! Watched a season (the one with Jason Mantzoukas) on my family holiday trip to London, we couldn't get enough of it.

I have a box of these in the basement from when I was a kid. IIRC, Dicks' books had the reputation of being functional, but some of the novelizations written by Ian Marter (Harry from Tom Baker's first season) were considered a step up and also occasionally a little gruesome, at least by comparison.

It’s worse because at least with Linux, the settings should be documented somewhere. With an LLM, who knows? As a software developer, I should not be doing improv.

Oh wow, that was just bizarre!

Anyways, fun rowdy crowd at today’s game. Shame we lost. Shame about the atrocious one-sided officiating.

Second most hated person of the game: the ref! Never heard chants of “Ref you suck!” occur so frequently, so enthusiastically and so often.

I wonder if Minnesota Frost player Curl gets booed as heartily at other PWHL games or if Toronto is alone in its passionate dislike of her.

The list seems like a weird mash-up of interesting spaces and places with good programming. The first time I visited Film Forum on a trip to NYC, I was kind of shocked that it was so tiny, reminded me of the Carlton arthouse multiplex in Toronto.

Six for me (Egyptian, TCL Chinese, New Beverly, BFI, Prince Charles, Film Forum) plus I stumbled into the lobby of the Little Prince last summer but have never seen a film there. Lots of possiblities in that article for future trips, though!
