To get the ball rolling, I'll start with the Make Epicycles Great Again Professorship in Geocentric Cosmology. Studies show that astronomy professors overwhelmingly support not only the idea that the Sun is at the center of the Solar System, but that our Solar System ...

@ccivanovich.bsky.social already made “stickiness” happen - everything else is second best
The national media is eating up this report as justification for perpetuating the lie that universities themselves - as opposed to decades of attacks from the far right authoritarian party - are responsible for eroding trust in higher education. You can almost hear them salivating at the chance.

Agreed! But there are def places where warming will lead to a net reduction in mortality (follow-up paper based on the above).
I am obviously not a contrarian here - warming will kill lots of people! I just think the cold vs. heat story is legitimately nuanced.

Not defending the people saying this in bad faith, but very credible and reliable statistical estimates using what Andy calls the "optimal temperature method" do in fact show that cold kills more than heat: www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

The singular goal of all future US politics is to ensure Trumpism is defeated and cannot again take root here, and everything that serves that end is to be considered and prioritized. It's a holistic organizing principle, from a Green New Deal to Nuremberg 2 to expanding the court to Reconstruction.

🚨 Congress held NIH and NSF budgets roughly flat. Scientists celebrated.
Here is what actually happened.
NIH awarded 4,641 fewer grants in FY2025 than the 4-year avg. New awards dropped 14%. Over $1.3B never reached investigators.
NSF awards fell 22%.
The money was there.
BREAKING: In response to huge cuts in Trump's budget request, NSF is shuttering its SBE directorate. Staff will be transferred to other parts of the agency and "grants that align with Administration priorities" will be maintained.

people may have noticed that @vsrikrish.bsky.social and I worked ourselves into a real tizzy last month over something called "RCP 8.5." Thank you to @progressivereform.bsky.social for giving us space and words to explain why!
TLDR: RCP8.5 is totally useful and not deceptive or misleading actually

This is figure 2, which shows estimated damage from a marginal unit of past or future emissions.
Future economic costs associated with historical CO2 emissions may be at least 10 times higher than costs already incurred from the same emissions, a study in Nature suggests. go.nature.com/3NDsly7 #econsky 🧪
