Here's a pic of me with a giant tree on the same trail, a 300 year old mountain ash called the Elephant Tree. It has a circumference of 14.7 metres

Leadbeater's Possum Rediscovery

Close to this location, Eric Wilkinson rediscovered the Leadbeater's Possum on 3rd April 1961, after the species had been considered extinct for more than fifty
years.

"I could hardly believe what I was seeing. This little grey possum had a thin, club-shaped black tail, bushing out towards the tip, and I could see that there was no gliding membrane. There was an almost instantaneous recognition that I was looking at the long lost Leadbeater's Possum! The hair stood up on the back of my neck, and still does even now, whenever I reflect back to that moment even though it is now past sixty years ago."
Eric Wilkinson, 2025

Leadbeater's Possum (Gymnobelideus leadbeateri), "Walert" in the Taungurung and Woi Wurrung languages, was proclaimed Victoria's Faunal Emblem in 1971 and is considered critically endangered.

Also very significant about this area is that it is where the Leadbeater's Possum was rediscovered in 1961

Earlier in late January I went for a short walk along the Cumberland Circuit Track in Cambarville, 20km East of Marysville. These images are of a small section of rainforest near where the trail crosses the Cumberland Creek. #GFNP

Today we're hiking the Victorian Parliament. If you come here, be sure to have the essentials (snake bite kit + rape whistle)

The Church Fathers retained some of the classical attitude but showed a new interest in and enthusiasm for what St. Augustine called "our human nature" and its "power of invent- ing, learning, and applying all such arts" as minister to life's necessities and "to human enjoyment." Augustine pointed to "the progress and perfection which human skill has reached in the astonishing achievement of clothmaking, architecture, agriculture, and navigation ... in ceramics drugs and appliances... condiments and sauces."

It was either the 1.2M posts lady, or more likely some pro Israel account who took issue with me calling their Sderot lookout an "amphitheatre of depravity"
