21. Some cultures have produced vital advances; others remain dysfunctional and regressive. All cultures are now equal. Criticism and value judgments are forbidden. Yet this new dogma glosses over the fact that certain cultures and indeed subcultures . . . have produced wonders. Others have proven middling, and worse, regressive and harmful.
Point 21 is the giveaway, some cultures produce "wonders," others are "regressive and harmful." Once you accept that hierarchy, you've quietly been given permission to apply different standards of verification to different actors. The form of verification stays, but the democratic function doesn't.
Several folks in my mentions said they quit watching the new Count of Monte Cristo on PBS because it features Black actors. My friend, you are going to be shocked when you learn the ethnicity of Alexandre Dumas.
I recently dipped my toes into the science fiction and fantasy book discourse on Facebook, and I find I have things to say about the "Golden Age" of science fiction. By which I do not mean being twelve. Stick that in your back pocket, though, as it's really useful for understanding some people.

Ok but the clip of beating up the car sold me. Sorry for being a 90s kid.
Hearing today about summer interns struggling to find any kind of housing at all because their work city is hosting World Cup games. )-:
Okay. Maybe I need to start reading Absolute Wonder Woman.

They sell ANDOR action figures, of course, and of course the audience is 35-50-year-olds, but it's deeply funny to imagine children playing with little Luthen Rael and Saw Gerrera dolls.
CHILD 1: I think violence is not only justified, but demanded
CHILD 2: I agree, but haste could be our undoing
That's the happiest I've ever been to watch my team lose a match. ☺️
Tonight @rhodeislandfc.bsky.social equalized the score against @nerevolution.bsky.social to 1-1 in the tenth (and final) minute of regular stoppage time. Wild moment. Held them to 1-1 through extra time and then lost on penalties because everybody's legs were noodles after 135+ minutes on the pitch.
The nonprofit that runs the successful, Pulitzer-winning Baltimore Banner is going to take over the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Of all the possible outcomes here, this is likely the best we could have hoped for.

That is better than I would have expected. 🤷🏻♀️ Maybe things won't be as dire as I fear.
Do you mean NJT sold that many FIFA train tickets on the first day? If so, that is kind of impressive.
Absolutely terrible when so many people have been hoping for the World Cup to get more US people into watching soccer in the years to come.
It's USD$80 round trips for Gillette Stadium (excuse me, "Boston Stadium") near-ish Boston on the MBTA.
I am 1000% expecting the US part of this World Cup to be a complete debacle. Along with all of the *other* terribleness in traveling to the US right now, these prices are well beyond ludicrous.
You will be pleased to know that I have also been running around to my friends saying "Holy shit!!!" and tapping repeatedly on the thread in front of them.
Holy. Shit.
Trying to figure out where on the spectrum this might fall is wild.
The spectrum:
- shaved
- began social transition
- grew tentacles
- not wearing sunglasses any more

‘“This fits a trajectory. As Signal gets more popular, more attackers start to view it as a potential platform for attacks,” said Quintin, who insisted we talk via video chat so he could be sure I wasn’t an online impersonator asking to interview him about being impersonated online.’
Yikes.
