Northshire was my happy place growing up (and still one of my favorite bookstores)

That sucks 😔Glad you're able to turn it into something...fun(?) - as I Gen X Star Wars fan I'm ashamed of all the hate out there that seems to be heavily weighted from my demographic - I've enjoyed your SW work (well maybe not what you and @tessagratton.bsky.social did to poor Kevmo 😱😉)
Don't forget to update the map with the giant 51st state to our north and the 52nd state of Greenland after we buy it, since ya know, that's a thing he thinks we can do 🤦♂️
That looks awesome!- one potential issue is what appears to be a metal rim - some of us tend to get distracted and have to reheat our hot beverage (multiple times) and metal and microwaves don’t get along too well ⚡️💥⚡️ But it does look classy, so perhaps we’ll just have to drink faster 😁
We’ve had this Peanuts strip on our fridge for the past 20+ years 😊🐕
Surprisingly quite a bit of the yellow area on your map is still farmland. The 2004 GEIS helped keep a good part of western CP non-developed. But there is still a lot of pressure on what’s not permanently protected. Esp along the 146 corridor
Ha! I’m working on Clifton Park’s farmland protection plan now - can’t say that your map was among the reference materials though 😂
Yea! Glad you finally made it there @rosemarywardley.bsky.social
I'd also be curious for the "Independent GIS Consultant" if they're reporting gross or net "salary" since it seems rather high (and it's a small sample size) - once you take out business expenses and self employment taxes there tends to a LARGE difference between gross and net.
Their report says "Average salary differences between those who are GISPs and those who are not vary widely by job title, with the overall difference being approximately $20,000" but the high paying jobs are more than 50% GISPs so seems like that could be skewing the data quite a bit 🤷♂️
Realized I forgot to add the #creativecarto been a while since I’ve been able to use that so I’m out of practice 😊 🗺️
Small world! We’ve seen them every year they’ve come to Cambridge - I think it’s been 5 years now.
Last night I gifted a tour map to my favorite indie Canadian Celtic band Còig. Map made in ArcGIS Pro with Natural Earth data, @johnnelsonmaps.bsky.social modified firefly symbology and a sprinkling of @sarahbell.bsky.social BellTopo Sans font
It seems like a cool meeting as there's overlap from my old science life at Brown to my current "family" of cartographers, but seeing some of the images, like the giant poster area, makes it seem overwhelming. 500 people at a conference feels like a lot, I can't imaging 5-6x that many 😱
There’s a @nacis.bsky.social slack channel for it, but having it revived here would be great - @run-for-funner.bsky.social @moriartymaps.com @molly-ohalloran.bsky.social and @sarahbell.bsky.social I feel were the lead/most active in getting it going on 🐦
I recently listened to Spare, which I thought was a great listen since Prince Harry narrates it (and not just because of the British accent which makes anything more interesting to listen to 😆). Really interesting insight into life as a royal and all the 💩 he has dealt with.
I occasionally think about trying them again, but then look at the long list of colors and other unpronounceable ingredients and decide it’s best left in the past 🤢
Used to love those as a kid. The name is a bit misleading since it should really be called 'super sweet candy coated peanuts with a unique flavor that you can't quite place' (but that's probably too long)
Already in my library 😊, but will have to wait to listen 😞 as I’m still in the middle of Phase II (almost done with @georgemann.bsky.social’s Battle of Jedha 😊 so still several books away 😞)
Now that the man, the myth, the legend has arrived on 🦋, this may be the one and only day I have more followers than John Nelson 🗺️
Hmmm, maybe just a couple of people you might know 🤔
Well all maps are abstractions, and these are geographic areas and you are using real elevation data to create them so I don’t think there’s any question that they are indeed maps.
Of course there’s no north arrow, scale bar, or legend so from what I hear they actually can’t be maps 🤔😂
Will be doing something similar later today - gotta have the onion gravy tomorrow 🤤
Had to look that one up - but the brief snippet that called it the “the Dirty Dozen in space” has me intrigued 🤔
Wait, are you allowed to use a Star Trek meme?😉 Isn't that like @wilwheaton.net walking into the Force Awakens premier on Big Bang Theory wearing his Trek uniform 😂
@sarahbell.bsky.social created a Cartographers starter pack, check that out if you haven’t yet. So glad you’re here!! 🤗
Got get John Nelson over here so we can not read his posts 😉
Also Warren Davison
And don't forget to add @tierneymaps.bsky.social
Someday I’ll get back to making maps for retail and get on there. Glad to see it finally happening after all these years.
When’s the soccer ball version coming out 😉⚽️? Seems like a good medium, lots of hexagons (and of course pentagons which aren’t quite as cartographically common).
I do like the 🏀 version though - was even cooler in person.
I wish there was a way to only see a reposts once. I don’t mind seeing a repost of something I haven’t seen before, but seeing it 10 times is a bit much.
