I saw him on the Gang of Four reunion tour at Irving Plaza not long before we left New York. Legends, all of them.

Went for a walk before work, listening to Shriekback on random on my phone, so it's hard to pick a #BestSongHeardToday but I'll go with

Eye tests are a good idea for all drivers and other countries do that routinely.
I had a professor have us write a lit review on what WASN'T researched in our field. It took forever to realize that the more I read the more a specific demographic had been left out. Hardest thing I did in grad school, but it totally changed my thinking. Lit reviews are the best.
I'm suing Grammarly over its paid AI feature that presented editing suggestions as if they came from me - and many other writers and journalists - without consent.
State law requires consent before someone's name can be used for commercial purposes.

The memory is probably a composite, but like so many of those reactions I often get to particular songs, I have a weird sense of timelessness and eternity, time that has collapsed but is also very specific and terribly remote.
On several occasions I tried singing the riff to friends, but we could never quite figure it out. Then one day I was watching the end of series one of Supernatural, and there it was in the opening sequence. - Joe Walsh's Turn to Stone

For many years I had a very specific memory of driving across Gulf to Bay blvd, a cloudy sunset, and a strong feeling that things were coming to an end. There was a song playing. I could almost remember it.

The cover of the book The Isle in the Silver Sea features the hands of two women touching in front of a round mirror.
Happy #WorldBookDay. I'm reading The Isle in the Silver Sea by Tasha Suri.
@beyondremedy.bsky.social - this is the sort of news we need.
This whole thread and Elizabeth Bear's resulting playlist are amazing.
Are there going to be new editions in the UK? My husband is hoping for a reprint of House of Shattered Wings with a larger font (the typeface in the existing edition is too small for him).
Roman altar with the face of the sun god Sol. It also includes carvings of the four seasons. Found in Inveresk in East Lothian, dating to about 140AD. It was designed so that light shone from behind, making the god's face and crown appear to glow in the darkness. This altar, along another one, were excavated in 2010 and are the only examples of their kind ever found in Scotland. They were set up by a Roman centurion whose name was written in short form as G CAS FLA, likely meaning Gaius Cassius Flavianus.
Two roman altars found near Edinburgh and related to the cult of Mithras are going to be displayed for the first time. One of the altars, dedicated to the god Sol, had holes so it could be illuminated from within, and don't tell me this is not the most rpg thing ever.
For the sake of argument, imagine I did not have a position on this
But as a prudent health services researcher choosing among methods, I would certainly want to be cognizant if 400 experts in a method in a methods journal said “method X is not a valid method”

Very useful roundup, and timely for me to help my thinking on training for researchers. Thanks!

On Wednesday, Edinburgh councillors will vote on plans for a new AI data centre which could set a precedent for Scotland. It’s controversial and many questions remain unanswered. A guest post by @rachaelrevesz.bsky.social: www.edinburghminute.com/an-open-lett...

This thread, really. For my Ph.D., many years ago, I interviewed women who did the work of provisioning sit-in occupation strikes with food, tea kettles, provisions, and all the 'domestic' hidden labour that made them possible. This has always been part of organising, my dudes.
