Picked up the paintbrush for the first time in a while, to test out a paint scheme idea. Going to wait to see what's on the new Cities of Sigmar release wave's decal sheet before I choose what design to stick on the shield, though.

Picked up a paintbrush for the first time in months and actually having a pretty good time painting a Steelhelm for a colour scheme test.

For some reason I was expecting this to be a kinda miserable experience but it's going pretty smoothly, apart from my total lack of ability to blend smoothly.

It's going to be really hard to resist picking up that Cities of Sigmar/Skaven spearhead dual box.

Just a tiny, little, microscopic bit disappointed he doesn't have the absolute absurdity of his original 2nd ed rules, where he had a tank-scale battlecannon strapped onto his bike (which would, iirc, literally punt the bike backwards whenever it fired).

Desire to run Imperium Maledictum with a Rogue Trader patron increasing. Painting energy slowly rising; may get the brushes out soon. Also started tapping away at the rough outline for a skirmish game of my own, just as a fun side project.

Spring's going well, all told.

Writing's coming along nicely. Finished my first two short stories for the forthcoming Wyldwood minis game from Tabletop Titans (neolithic fantasy!), two more underway, and well into my next piece for Black Library.

My unique talent is frequently checking the clock at what turns out to be precisely 13.37, which I think is pretty leet tbh.

At some point (perhaps still) there developed this idea in some of the 3rd-party D&D-linked industry that any sort of elegance, poetry, or descriptive expanse in prose to develop the setting or establish mood or set the stakes of an adventure was a sin. Was very depressing to work with those people.

(To be fair, I am enjoying the work itself.)

I really struggle to paint #Warhammer minis when I'm writing fiction for Black Library.

When it's work, my brain renders it unable to also be recreational fun.

This is a bit of a pain, because I suspect winding down with some paints and brushes would be great relaxation after a few thousand words.

Yeah, I spent a lot of time these past few days researching how people reloaded crossbows on horseback. I have a few folks I know from larp and reenactment I was about ready to go ask, but thankfully lucked into the right search terms.

(Turns out, they used special crank devices called cranequins.)

Oh bloody hell, doing this novel blurb is like trying to come up with the first line for a new manuscript.

I am slowly driving myself mad writing and rewriting it, trying to find the perfect version. I don't even know what a great blurb looks like!

Had similar at Mongoose Publishing in the mid-2000s; I and another editor played some Warmachine after hours in the office so I could introduce him to some of its ideas, and we got rather scolded for it by a boss and told we could only play the company's games in future.

Trying to write the blurb for the back cover of a novel and it's like my brain has emptied out of all thoughts. What was this story even about?

Maybe I should dip my toes back into ttrpg writing again. Been a while now!

Getting back into the swing of daily writing after the post-finishing-novel lull has been tricky.

I had something similar in the latter stages of working on a manuscript a couple of months ago, where the word processor sometimes reported the total word count as around 5k higher than it actually was.

Could never quite figure out *why*. Quite distressing though, as I was trying to cut word count.
