Recently, I did a road trip through WV. Lots of mountain highways and with the car crammed with our luggage. The only "downside" of the car is not a lot of cargo space. I'm OK with that. 443 miles on 8 gallons of gas. Which does indeed work out to about 55 mpg. When I'm the sole passenger, it's 60.
I'm mostly trusting the computer readout on the car. But I also play games to try to get the maximum. I've found out that to get the top mpg:
1. I have to be the only passenger
2. Absolutely no cargo - even a few bags of groceries affects it
3. Level roadways
4. Steady speed
