This war is horrible and Trump is a POS.

That doesn't change the fact that the Iranian regime is a horrific violator of human rights.

Just like you don't have to hand it to white nationalists, you also don't have to hand it to regimes which just recently murdered thousands of their own citizens.

the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

An ICE officer fatally shooting a woman in Minneapolis is not the first time federal agents involved in immigration have shot a person this year. Here are two shootings, including another fatal one, during the recent Chicago blitz.

Maelle’s ending is valid but I think this characterization is incomplete. Renoir ultimately does accept Maelle’s conviction and trusts her (albeit VERY reluctantly). It’s Verso that remains opposed to the very last because he wants to die and be let go. Verso’s conviction does not come from Renoir.

Why is half the media and a bunch of world leaders playing along with Trump's claim that the "Maduro regime" is over and that the Opposition (or the USA) now controls Venezuela? It's a bit odd.

It’s often been said over the last decade that’s it’s depressing to have to think about the President every day of our lives. But now we have to think about these people too?

Earlier this year, Dr. Jane Goodall sat down for an interview for Brad Falchuk’s new Netflix series, Famous Last Words.

The premise of the series is to interview people on the condition that the interview not air until the subject has passed away.

obviously this is *by far* not the only reason for (often valid!) criticism, but also, if your critique is "this framing will lead the audience (excluding me, because I'm very smart) to think X," it does seem incumbent to figure out whether or not that is actually happening

The Palestinian people are still suffering even when the cameras turn away and focus on something else

It is not anti-Israel to support their human rights to food, water, medicine, hygiene products & so much more

Their right to live is more important than my politics or yours

The reason the Biden story won't go away is that the "Biden Inner Circle Coverup" story is the "Feinstein on Judiciary" story is the "Connolly instead of AOC on Oversight" story is the "Republicans are about to pass their Medicaid killer bill because 3 Dems have literally died in their seats" story.

When this video was first texted to me, I assumed it was from Iran.

The way she screams, she was wearing a hijab, and the way the law enforcement approached her—it looked no different from the way Islamic Republic authorities arrest women.

It’s from Massachusetts, of course.

There are not. But the administration’s general strategy appears to be to confuse the public by asserting that even the clearest black-letter law is hotly contested so long as they can scrounge up some hack willing to pretend up is down.

Swinging seems at first like it’d be easier than jumping but it’s not—when jumping the adrenaline hits you hard and tunes out all your anxious thoughts. Swinging doesn’t give you enough of a hit to do that so you end up witnessing the whole thing with terrified clarity.

The 1952 McCarran Act under which these actions are being carried out today was heavily criticized by Jewish groups (including the ADL) as being deeply inflected by antisemitic attitudes. This 1952 piece in the Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle compared the McCarran Act to the Nuremberg Laws.

There's a lot of confusion swirling so it may help to explain that the below is actually fairly normal following an ICE arrest. ICE often transfers people to the deep South where some of the largest detention centers are located, and the ICE Detainee Locator system can take up to 24 hours to update.

Only because I have seen statements to this effect like a hundred times now:

He was not disappeared. He's being transferred to a prison in Louisiana. It happens all the time and ICE sucks at notifications. It's very bad! There's a lot of shady shit going on here! But it's not a "disappearance"

Based on experiences in other countries (🇭🇺🇮🇳🇹🇷), I am not so optimistic. Many far-right supporters expect all politicians to be corrupt, including their own, and accept corruption of their politicians as long as they deliver on other issues/punish “the Other”.

I have a totally different view of median voter sentiment, which is they are wholly tolerant of corruption so long as they feel like they’re getting something out it.

In advance of the Oscars tonight: a lot of comedy heroes let you down. They become unfunny/bitter/closed minded. Conan is the exception. He has grown & evolved & is funnier than he’s ever been. He’s also an extremely kind and lovely human. Just a sincere post to say: Conan rules.

Concur. AOC, Pritzker and Jasmine Crockett just need to start telling Democrats what to do. People want to be led. They're begging for leaders. And current Democratic leadership is derelict.

A Russian puppet committed to empowering Putin and weakening the West would not have acted differently from Trump and Vance today. “Betrayal” does not capture the scope of the evil we saw. Our president is allying the nation with an enemy of democracy and human rights while double-crossing our ally.

Without going all Martin Niemöller here, I do think that it's bad not to speak up for immigrants, transgender Americans, civil servants, women, Ukraine, and everyone else the MAGA bullies are going after. We're beyond picking and choosing whom to defend. It's time to stand up and speak out.

Among the most commonly accepted and yet utterly baseless political theories out there is the idea that you can "satisfy" nativist urges by giving into some of their demands. How much history do you need to refute this?
