We got Trump because their electoral “democracy” was deeply flawed and open to a fascist takeover, and their Democrats were deluded to admit that their system was broken and do something about it.
And because the people are open to anyone who says America Is The Best, Trump used that.

My anti-US stance has always been harder than most. The nation has always been dangerous because they, as a people, have been raised with the belief that they are the best nation on earth. Even the “progressive” ones.
It’s mass delusion and what we are seeing is the result of that.

The shirt made the night easier because it is absurd, a bit of fun. Made it easier for us to be in the same place as him.

This story probably needs a postscript.
I wore the shirt at a function where we knew he would be at. Not normally a thing I would do, but he knows exactly the impact he has had on our friend. He still stalks her social media.
And he has shown no remorse, made no attempt at a genuine apology.
