In Brazil we have a solution very similar to Japan's called "Boleto Bancário" which is sorta like a payment slip you can take anywhere to pay it.
Except that we moved beyond that and created the PIX, which is an electronic money transfer system operated by our central bank instead of companies.

New from me—I had a great time at PAX East last week and met truly incredible developers. I was also pulling my hair out at how many small teams outnumbered proper-sized studios.
It's good that indies can punch above their weight. It's bad that it's replacing stable work in games!

I 100% would have used ChatGPT for homework when I was in school, because homework sucked ass. However, if I hadn't been forced to bullshit a lot of essays 15 minutes before class I wouldn't have learned that I enjoy writing. The moral is to destroy both ChatGPT and homework.

there's always, always some unexpected hit game with a lot of resources behind it that gamers want to create confirmation bias narratives of success and be like "just make a good game" about, from Disco Elysium to Clair Obscur. one of the most perpetually irritating aspects of the game sphere
