but plenty of people who know what it is know that they are indeed conflated 😜

I love games with accessibility features. I don’t need them myself but whenever I see them I’m like “what a nice touch”
Respectfully, as someone who had a crap pc and has auditory processing disorder, adjusting settings before diving in is a must.
It’s actually a type of accessibility and something easy to implement.
Also, don’t release games and let them boot at 100% volume. 😡
My kingdom for larger text options, please god.
The studios that get it right tend to do one simple thing: they listen early.
Not after launch. Or after backlash. Early.
Video games accessibility really isn’t about being perfect.
It’s about caring enough to try before someone has to point it out loud.
I'm looking to talk to some folks about accessibility controls in games that make their lives easier. Attach some folks to this post that you know speak on this frequently because I'd love to chat with them!
Cheers! 💞
because video games as art are _interactive_ in a way no other art is, and since art is communication, a failure to let people engage is a failure as an artist.
accessibility features are not optional
because some gamers perceive their self-worth as linked to how "good" they are at video games. Making video games more accessible "diminishes" their "achievement".
As someone who has crappy eyesight any game that lets me increase the font size is such a relief for me. Certain games like Disco Elysium would be unplayable for me without it.
I genuinely have no understanding how people can think more accessibility in video games is gonna ruin the experience or such accessibility options are a non-issue.
This! Like if people don't want to use the accessibility options. Then don't it is that simple. But people like me who use them to make it so we can enjoy the game more. Shouldn't have to not be able to have them because other people for some messed up reason don't want them options at all.
We dove into Fishbowl and came away really touched. Such a special game, with super thoughtful attention to accessibility!!

This game really is SO cool and has so much personality! And it's available NOW!
I provided accessibility consultancy on the project, and I'm so happy for Janson RAD that it's out in the world now :))
(your team is never too small to take steps towards accessibility)
Check it out!! <333 🐊🚤

Huge thanks to IGDA and @ianhamilton.bsky.social for asking myself and @jordandevries.com to host. So grateful to be able to help these discussions happen 🖤

Remember it isn't what you know that makes you important - it's how you know it and how you communicate it.
Anyone can learn game accessibility, the method of conveying that to devs is key.
If you're disabled, being disabled doesn't make you unique - how you tell your story and experience does.
Screenshot of Bluesky's accessibility menu. There are two options: require alt text before posting; and Display larger alt text badges. Require alt text before posting is toggled on.
I'm never done tapping this fucking sign
It's worth lookimg at a specific assist and then thinking about which specific disabilities it could relate to.
Not the best examples, filters aren't how to approach colourblind accessibility, and first port of call for photosensitive epilepsy should be avoiding triggers full stop. And while assist modes aren't pushed as the pinnacle of accessibility features, for some disabled people they absolutely can be.
I dunno.. doesn't quite scream 'be jealous of my blissful utopia' enough to me.

I don't suppose there info available somewhere about it?
People who do accessibility as part of, or as the entire scope of their role - be the mentor you needed when you were starting out. Limit Break even has training if you're not sure about how to mentor!
We need more game accessibility people to invest time into the next generation of professionals.
Yes! Indie development is already tough with limited budgets so adding more accessibility options will always just add to the game. It shouldn't be a detriment.
And besides, sometimes people don't know all the accessiblity features that people need.
No it isn't.
Some day there will be a Sea of Thieves update that doesn't include accessibility. Today is not that day.
