If you paid taxes for 2025, you likely paid:

$124 — school lunch & nutrition programs
$49 — diplomacy to prevent wars
$19 — USPS
$19 — Federal Aviation Administration
$18 — national parks

and

$4,049 — weapons and war.

These priorities are hurting us all. We need change. #TaxDay

This is Sadie. She was finally reunited with her human, astronaut Christina Koch, after her mom’s voyage around the moon took her the furthest any human has ever been from their dog. She can't wait to hear all about the universe. 14/10 (IG: astro_christina)

You have more in common with the people of Iran than you do with anyone in this administration, any member of the technocracy, anyone who is profiting from this war, or any billionaire. When you see Iranians forming human chains outside key infrastructure sites, you should feel a sense of kinship.

the walrus bsky account: Authors are using AI. Publishers know it. And now, says publishing consultant Thad McIlroy, authors are being forced to lie about it. One cancelled horror novel didn’t just end a career—it exposed an industry-wide reckoning.

idk guys when i see a lot of similar headlines insisting that editors & authors are all already embracing AI, i don't assume these things are true. i assume there are a lot of very rich people with an unpopular product pushing a particular narrative in my industry!

every single author I know treats AI as a venomous snake made out of other, meaner snakes and wants it scoured from the face of the earth with cleansing fire

claiming they use AI is basically insulting the core of their very being

I said this in replies elsewhere, but I want to say it loudly here.

Anything other than a fullthroated affirmation of birthright citizenship in this country by SCOTUS is an act of treason. It is grounds for immediate impeachment. It is a violation of every oath they have made.

Senate Republicans believe they have a solution to reopen DHS and end airport chaos The proposal would fund almost all of DHS, while leaving ICE and deportation operations for a separate filibuster-proof bill, in which they'd also try to pass pieces of the SAVE America Act.

🚨 Some Democrats might fully cave in the DHS funding fight and back a new "deal" struck by Trump and GOP senators to fund Border Patrol and some ICE operations — potentially without any reforms.

That means we need to flood Democratic phonelines today.

Blatant lie. US aid to Ukraine was worth a relatively small fraction of one year’s US military budget and was equipment US isn’t using against Iran.

But if it were true, that means Trump launched a war of choice when the US military was woefully unprepared for one. Which would be seriously damning.

‘Trump’s favorite Democrat’ Fetterman bails out pick to replace Noem at DHS in Senate cliffhanger Oklahoma senator survives committee vote despite saying he ‘understood’ why the committee chairman was subject to savage beating

Even though Markwayne Mullin has vowed to champion the same mass deportation agenda as Kristi Noem, Fetterman just voted to advance Mullin's nomination as DHS secretary.

Fetterman could have blocked Mullin's nomination. Instead, this supposedly Democratic senator decided to back the regime.

The House should pass it immediately so we can lower housing costs for families across the country.

The Other Side of Danger | Rust & Moth The other side of danger usually keeps quiet. It’s the sound of the green light after a driver plows through a red, the whisper of grass in an empty field no more a crash site, smoke having crept into...

That one person can drag us into a war without consulting or even notifying Congress, or our allies, or fully explaining to the American people why this is necessary, is absolutely bonkers.

Reminder that Congress has the power to stop this.

The DoD (sorry "DoW") response to Anthropic is that govt should be able to deploy AI for "any lawful use"

Which isn't credible from a regime that regularly breaks the law, pretends the law says something it doesn't, and claims to have changed the law without following the legal procedures to do so.

The entire Democratic strategy debate — "moderate" or move left? fight or compromise? — is based on a misreading of data. Voters don't think Dems are too progressive; they think Dems are weak. The actual math on what to do about this isn't even close!
