The music in Schrödinger's Cat Burglar goes SO HARD, it's such a pleasure hearing it whenever I'm testing sounds in the game. It has been a great vibe guide for the sound design as well, @dreamtrak.bsky.social really knocked it out of the park with this soundtrack <3

My talk's full description, included in its entirety in the alt text follows: As an audio implementation tool, Unreal Engine’s MetaSounds seems far from ideal — it’s completely alien to people used to audio software, it’s difficult to achieve basic playback of sounds, and it’s full of seemingly arbitrary limitations. The reason is simple: MetaSounds is not a good tool. In fact, it isn’t even a tool at all — MetaSounds is a forge, and in it you can make some very good tools indeed. Runtime synthesis is already offered in middleware in the form of 1st- and 3rd-party plugins that solve one specific problem or other, but one size does not always fit all. A generic set of footsteps won’t sound right for every character, and a generic rain or wind or whoosh plugin won’t sound right for the world and aesthetic of every game. Rolling your own tools is an opportunity to build a specific solution for your specific problem, and get your fingerprints all over everything while you’re at it. Join Zander for a rummage through Supertonic’s MetaSounds toolbox, as he demonstrates his approach to building customisable synths for responsive and dynamic sound design, generated at runtime. Through examining various synths built for real projects such as Sbug Games’ Isopod, he hopes to impart an understanding of the scope of MetaSounds’ capabilities, and convince you that maybe the best granular synthesiser is the one you bake yourself.
