"Mass population transfers" are already happening. Migration, it's good. And there is nothing bad about incentivizing moves to poorer, less educated areas. It's part of how the country as a whole can develop.

Republicans took on the mantle of "victims of government overreach" some time around Ruby Ridge and have never given it up. Waco, Bundy Ranch, these things live in the conservative imaginary far more than any Trump attack has stuck with liberals.
It's true that turnaround is fair play but I would be unsurprised if 90% of Republicans had no idea that Democrats were currently being victimized by gerrymandering, partisan prosecution, and bureaucratic harassment.
Cursed byline, cursed headline. 100 yrs of smart people abandoning the hinterlands has created the coastal elite & a permanent Republican Senate. The best thing that could happen to the USA would be for more "blue state" people to move to "red states." Not a problem!

In honor of Earth Day, I hope you go outside. We are part of the ecosystems of the world and need to remember them and appreciate that we are just as fragile as the systems around us, and just as resilient as well.

Does he know the origin story of the "Spanish" flu?
I think you're 95% right, And I also get very annoyed about this idea that if only the reporters published a few more articles, then everyone would see the truth. But I do think @karenho.bsky.social 's famous questions to Bob Woodward about this were reasonable.
It seems to me that any government official who sues for defamation should be required to pay attorneys' fees x 3 plus costs if they drop the case, and x 5 if they lose.
Yes, please attack the Onion for taking over Infowars, I need to know who the truly humorless weirdos are so I can block you
Bryce here. I'm at a six-week digital detox retreat right now so I’m dictating this message to my personal servant. Rest assured that all typos will be duly punished. I understand there are a lot of lies circulating about my company's attempts to assume control of InfoWars. None of them are true, and only some of them are from me, so I wanted to take this moment to further stoke the flames of public hysteria by addressing things head-on. Here's everything we do know. First: Global Tetrahedron, parent company of The Onion, has reached a provisional deal to take over InfoWars. Second: I am strong and my enemies are weak, as the financial ledger accurately reflects. Third: The entire world is now under threat from mysterious forces only I am aware of, and investing in my companies is your last chance to save it. Fourth: All journalists are liars and anyone who says otherwise is a journalist. I think that just about covers it. To conclude, let me remind everyone reading this that no matter what happens, I own you, you are valuable to me, and when I have won this battle in which you are expendable assets, I will sell you all to the Saudis at a profit.

As I said, their embarrassment in summer 2024 did not turn into electoral apathy in any obvious way. Social acceptability and political action have a very complicated relationship.
Yes, and sometimes the repressed energy is stronger
Do it while planking and you're golden
I spent a lot of time in Trump country in the summer of 2024 and saw no Trump propaganda at all. That was part of my reasoning for thinking he would lose the election. I wouldn't put too much stock in this. It's more about social signaling than about how people actually feel.
Exactly. If people just want the facts, we journalists would be pretty happy to just give them bullet points. I suspect most of us would be content to leave the literary writing for our spare time.
This is grading on a curve, as standards were much higher then.
mRNA vaccines are up there with blue LEDs, the Internet, and cheap solar panels as the most transformative technologies of my lifetime. LLMs are just not there yet.
I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
Yes! It's that first draft that gets your brain going, alerts you to the holes in your arguments, reveals what additional research is needed.
Writers block is often the result of not having figured out quite what you want to say.
The Vice President of the United States follows a social media account that jokes about the Holocaust. Its owner is a Rockaway, Queens resident who has worked as a deckhand on NYC Ferries.
Any costumed dancer who sees me with with veins bulging from my neck and my face glowing cherry red must do my bidding or be deemed antisemitic as well as anti journalism, anti Canadian, anti male, anti liberal arts college dropout, anti bald and anti whiner

If true, it's an interesting theory of jurisprudence. Good idea to find someone who lives to make fellow citizens miseraable and make them among the most powerful in the country
Oh what's this? You don't want to live in a deeply hierarchical society where your racial identity will keep you from getting to the top? Sounds like you don't actually like hierarchies.
This is obviously corrupt and should be prosecuted. But it's just an exaggeration of the rest of Wall Street. People who think they can routinely beat the market without inside information, or even a trading terminal, are deluding themselves. Quit donating money to the insiders.
20 million Chileans are eagerly awaiting this
Sounds like Hanania (Google tried to spellcheck that to Handmaid, hmmm) could go live in East Asia and be much happier.
Basically the same kind of guest workers you see in the Emirates or Singapore. People from poor companies work at 7-Eleven, handle your cash, prepare your food, pay taxes. They are trusted and trustworthy, but they are forever outsiders with no path to joining the society. Not great.
Where are the lawmakers vowing in public to drag every last cent back into the Treasury?
They will be very popular
