UK and EU finalise agreement to bring UK into Erasmus+ in 2027. Over 100,000 people are expected to benefit in the first year alone. Source: Department for Education, 15 April 2026.
Today, the UK and the EU signed the legal text in Brussels today to formally bring the UK into Erasmus+ in 2027.
This marks a monumental milestone for young people across the UK, whom, from 2027 onwards, can experience transformative opportunities with Eramus+.
International students come to us from all manner of backgrounds. For many, university in the UK is a lifeline. Staying here can be escape from abusive backgrounds and forced marriages. And often those students get financially cut off by their families for trying to escape. Do a story about them.
This actually makes it sound like the university snitched on her, specifically. If the journalist had actually bothered, they would have done a story on all students annually deported and the reality of what Home Office regulation means for universities. But they didn't bother.
I'm not unsympathetic to the impact this will have on the particular person. But I do have to question why a major news outlet picked this up to have a dig at a specific university for implementing its own regulations, even if framed in the context of Home Office regulation.
There is a lot that is deeply unfair with the current Visa system, but this story isn't it. This isn't a story. If she put in an appeal it would be rejected. There isn't even a reason given for why she couldn't meet the six week deadline.
What on earth is the Guardian trying to do with this article? There are hundreds of students each year withdrawn for late payment of fees and sent home. There is no story relating to this specific student. She will get a refund. She can come back. Nobody's life savings have been wasted.

Happy 8th anniversary to the tweet that changed us forever. Look at this absolute unit.
One of the more prosaic preparations has been to persuade him that Artemis is not like her ISS mission - there will be no casual phone calls from orbit, no quick check-ins to locate a missing item in a cupboard. "He's not going to be able to ring me and ask where something is in the house," she laughs. "He's going to have to find it."
Just remember, no matter how useless you may be feeling, you will never be Christina Koch's husband, having to ring her in space to ask where the lightbalbs are, levels of useless.
We didn't deserve this day.
Now we have to meet for sure! Somehow, somewhere... ๐๐
That is trully awesome, Steph!!
I've been bursting at the seams wanting to tell people about this, but now that it's been announced- I'm so proud to have been on the storyboard team on Lego One Piece!!! Everyone was so excited to work on it and put a huge amount of passion into every brick. ๐ดโโ ๏ธ
And when we say insane, let's be clear, we don't mean mentally ill.

So sorry Sixo ๐โค๏ธ
I feel like since I came back, people have been spelling my name wrong even more so than usual. Like I was singlehandedly holding the reigns of Marian and when I left, nobody picked then up.
Pay for damn staff.
