Update. Still don't know what I meant but I've decided to keep this permanently on my to-do list. You should too. Very inspiring.

For any writer who needs to hear this:

You don't have to write a bestselling literary masterpiece πŸ“šπŸ’Έ

Write the book you wish existed 🌸✨

I did not know that! Thank you for sharing this excellent news. Can't wait to read these.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I've personally often found the portal guidelines unclear, but if you've had success in the past applying to these same grants, it seems more likely that it's a matter of them deprioritizing midcareer artists lately.

There has been a shift towards prioritizing emerging artists; many established and midcareer artists seem to not be receiving funding they used to count on :( Re: grant writing, some committees have opaque & idiosyncratic expectations, so maybe that's what they meant rather than writing quality?

it is really bad how many people across the political spectrum on social media seem to discuss things in terms of discredited genetic pseudoscience when it comes to identity

A rabbi asked his pupils how they could tell when the night had ended and the day was on its way back.
β€œCould it be,”asked one student, β€œwhen you can see an animal in the distance and tell whether it is a sheep or a dog?”
β€œNo,” answered the rabbi. β€œ
Could it be,” asked another, β€œ when you can look at a tree in the distance and tell whether it is a fig tree or a peach tree?”
β€œNo,” said the rabbi.
β€œWell, then what is it?” his pupils demanded.
β€œIt is when you look on the face of any woman or man and see that they are your sister or brother. Because if you cannot do this, then no matter what time it is, it is still night.”

The woman killed by ICE today was a poet. She won the 2020 Academy of American Poets, University & College Poetry Prize at Old Dominion University.

(And this is Renee from confirmed socials- a photo of a different woman with red lipstick is going around, but that was a classmate.)

Just read Justin Torres' We the Animals. Love when a book is so good it leaves you thinking, "Oh yeah. This is why books exist."
