How Much I Dislike the Daily Mail

I would rather
eat Quavers that are six weeks stale,
blow dry the man bun of Gareth Bale,
listen to the songs of Jimmy Nail,
than read one page of the Daily Mail.

If I was bored
in a waiting room in Perivale,
on a twelve-hour trip on Network Rail,
halfway through a circumnavigational sail,
I would not read the Daily Mail.

I would happily read
the autobiography of Dan Quayle,
1001 Things You Can Do With Kale,
selected scripts from Emmerdale,
if it meant I didn’t have to read the Daily Mail.

Far better to
stand outside in a storm of hail,
scratch a blackboard with a fingernail,
be swallowed by a humpback whale,
than have to read the Daily Mail.

If I was blind
and it was the only thing in Braille,
I still would not read the Daily Mail.

He's still talking about himself. Although he does have cats...

On a train and a man nearby has talked about himself continuously and loudly for the last ten minutes, to his very quiet friends. He is now boasting about how highly he scored in communication tests. I suspect he scored less well when it came to listening.

Patsy Stevenson: Challenging the police is terrifying – I know that first hand | Good Law Project When a gang of police officers pinned me to the ground, it hit me – they’re not on our side, says Patsy Stevenson

“When women report abuse and violence and are dismissed or brushed aside, it feeds the dangerous narrative that it’s somehow our fault. Women like Nina Cresswell have stood firmly against that narrative and spoken out. That’s so brave.” – @patsystevenson.bsky.social

Does he have any idea how hard it is to actually get an Autism diagnosis?! And the IPPR confirmed last week that welfare spending will remain flat until 2031. It's ignorance like his, that causes barriers for people with disabilities, exacerbates MH issues and forces them out of the workplace.

Rachel Reeves signals plan to remove two-child benefit cap in budget Chancellor understood to be preparing to fully reverse measure, which would cost over £3bn but could lift 350,000 children out of poverty

The two-child limit is the biggest driver of rising child poverty & scrapping it in full is the right thing to do. All children are equally deserving of a good childhood and abolishing this cruel policy would give millions more kids a better start in life. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

#OtD 5 Jul 1948 the UK National Health Service (NHS) was founded to provide free universal healthcare. The Labour Party started permitting charges in 1949 and it has been under attack ever since. It's up to us, the working class to defend it stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/1053...

Two cats sitting on the grass. The tabby cat glares at the camera because he is not the centre of attention while the black and white cat has taken a break from shouting and is laying down and covered in the grass she has been rolling in.

Tried to take a picture of the first rose on my new plant. Got shouted at by the cats for not paying them enough attention.

Disabled people on Universal Credit already struggle to pay rent, heating and food bills.

A two-tier system is not good enough on PIP - equally, it is not good enough on Universal Credit.

The Government's incoherent and dangerous cuts MUST be dropped.

A picture of a descriptive board in Southwell Workhouse detailing what happened to new arrivals to the workhouse. It states "How did it work? If a pauper had no choice but to enter the workhouse, they would go to the gate and ask to be admitted. New arrivals were searched by the master or matron according to their sex. Their clothes and any personal items were removed and kept aside. They had to take a bath and were then given a numbered set of workhouse clothing. They were held in a receiving ward, awaiting assessment by the medical officer, who checked them for disease or vermin before allocating them to a class, according to their age, intellect and state of health. The able-bodied were expected to work, the aged and infirm were not. They joined their ward and clotted into the daily routine. A pauper was allowed to go out to look for work, or could ask to leave for good, giving just a few hours notice. If they came with family members, all had to leave at the same time. Their own clothing was returned.

If people asked for help they were offered the workhouse - and then chose to submit themselves for entry. They could also ask to leave at any time. On the other hand the new system cut out-relief - the giving of food and money. The workhouse was provided as the only option. But the systems were inconsistently implemented. Many people, including the elderly, people with disabilities, and children, had no prospect of supporting themselves. This meant they were forced into a system designed as a deterrent to others.

Dug these up from the back garden many years ago and they've been happily sitting in my porch ever since. Until an overenthusiastic milkman took them away. Called #modernmilkman to ask him to bring them back. And he did!

Help us stop Universal Credit cuts for disabled young adults The government is proposing to remove access to the health element of Universal Credit for most young adults aged 16 – 21.

The government is proposing to remove access to the health element of Universal Credit for people aged 16 – 21 once they claim UC in their own right.

This would mean a drop in income of almost £100 per week for 110,000 Disabled young adults.

Take action👇

The changes are due to be brought in from November 26. It will affect an estimated 1.3 million claimants. My point is that Labour are worse than Reform, which is extremely sad.

Labour have already announced their plan to reduce numbers of PIP claimants by significantly more than this.
