I would love to see some urban politics scholarship on what cities are doing in terms of data centers and driverless cars. I think both highlight the way our typical understandings of partisanship divides break down at local level.

Call me Cassandra, but if you make thousands of HEI staff either compulsorily or 'voluntarily' redundant and create conditions in which senior staff take early retirement in an attempt to save more junior colleagues' careers without significant new hiring, a critical loss is exactly what happens.
Interesting post about the failure to provide safe water and sanitation to all, including in so-called "superpowers."
Hundreds of thousands of people in the US, if not more, also lack adequate #water services.
Singer and actress Pearl Bailey — in costume, dressed in an elegant white period gown and extravagantly wide-brimmed, feather bedecked hat — captured facing the camera while standing behind a counter, her left hand resting on a cash register as she looks upward, mid-song, in a medium-length black-and-white shot taken on set during a performance of the all-Black Broadway production of Hello, Dolly!

Teach quotation, summary, paraphrase, citation at the beginning of every class, first activity after syllabus overview. Logic of citation, being able to retrace scholarly steps, replicate their work.
“From the liver to the brie,” one sign read.
“Globalise the insalata,” read another.
“Well played,” said one police officer.
Well played indeed Queenslanders.
The fact that every major police union endorsed Donald Trump is under appreciated in our political discourse.
Stacy Mitchell has the best command of this subject. She explains how Amazon's ability to match any discount absolutely shreds competitors trying to give you a lower price. To hide these powers from nosy reporters, Amazon shuts off the magic algorithm during holiday shopping season and Prime Day.
Newly released records on the police response to the assassination of Melissa Hortman show officers knew a woman was lying motionless on the top of the stairs inside the Hortman home but waited 30 minutes to physically check on her.
The currently escalating tech backlash must be put in the context of:
“people have been listening to the most insufferable techbros in the world gleefully threaten everyone else with mass unemployment for over 6 years, and they’re sick of their shit”
Also, of course, drug trafficking is not a crime punishable by summary execution even if you disingenuously try to rebrand it as "narcoterrorism."

Correct. I never heard of him before attacks started showing up in my timeline
They’ve run all the normal plays like vaporware demos, credulous earned media stories, celebrity endorsers but since we’ve all lived through successive rounds of snake oil, that old playbook no longer works and people are giving them the finger. So they’re having a tantrum and moving on to threats.
If Mike Cernovich is excitedly agreeing with your company's dystopian statement, you've screwed up in life and you should take the Game Genie out of the console.

skyepolk on threads - ChronicIllnessThreads 03/26/25 STOP telling those with a chronic illness that you're jealous that they don't work. Most of us wish we could work, we had dreams just like you before we got sick. Being at home doesn't mean we're having fun. There are days I'm in so much pain/ so tired I can't even do simple things like read a book or watch tv. We are not on vacation.

We had a meeting on April 17 attended by over 100 cultural heritage workers. We struck a temporary committee to carry out the work resulting from the dialogue. There is representation on it from archivists, museum workers, historians, genealogists, historical society folks, and librarians.
An important thing to note when discussing this topic is that NASA has a MANDATE to do outreach and education and messaging about its science. It’s a core principle for them. And as such that outreach is FUNDED.
What we need is for more agencies to be rewritten to add mandates like this!
men will be like, why can't I find a girlfriend? and it's like, my guy...your whole worldview is based around the ownership, control, and abuse of women. you really think that's appealing to us?
this is just a warmed over david duke speech from 1990
Look, I know that Palantir products are apparently having good results within the NHS (see recent articles in the FT) but I don’t think it’s unduly fussy to question whether the British state should be dealing with companies like this.
I remember all too well.
