Bookshop.org: Buy books online. Support local bookstores. A better way to buy books online. Every purchase financially supports local independent bookstores.

Oh my lord bookshop.org sells DRM free ebooks.

I am overjoyed

I know everyone's talking bout RAM going up in price, but HDDs too. Last 12TB drive I bought for my NAS in August 2025 was £230. The same size drive from same manufacturer is now £350

Not even when you are building Doom in CSS. This one is for you @matuzo.at

Book Thoughts: Pandora's Star & Judas Unchained by Peter F Hamilton

Website all switched over to bunny.net and a new blog post about two scifi books I read recently to celebrate.

Interesting the amount of defaults vercel gives you, a little `<meta charset="utf-8" />` and we're back in business

Fascinating byproduct of trying to move my personal site to bunny.net from vercel is all the emoji are rendering wrong

I'm at least 80% DnD source books at the moment.

I find the "old" clarifier of books the most weird.

Like.

New books can be good too.

Emily Wilson's Iliad translation is so fucking good.

Like maddeningly good. It FEELS like an epic poem, not an old dusty story of study.

Second year in a row missing #stateofthebrowser . Last year Dom and I made a sword. This year I am FRANTICALLY prepping an 8 hour DnD session for tomorrow. Excited to keep up with the highlights on social.

Twinning with the set up, I like the data being separate from the server. Synology NAS + Thinkcentre has been great. Finally got round to setting up tailscale too and now I can access all me services when I'm out and about.

The self hosting rabbit hole is deep and never ending.

bonus points if i can snap a picture of a book and it adds it to my TBR list, or tells me its already there.

T'was a folly idea where I wanted to try and use the M1 Mac for doing some nice transcoding with Plex in real time, but it has just been a complete pain. Instead, I have this lovely old think-centre thing from eBay, which absolutely covers all my needs.

Like I want one app to open for:
- Adding a book to my to read, or bumping it up
- writing down thoughts about a book while listening to audio version
- reading a book
- also reading RSS Feeds and blogs.

I find myself longing for a like “reading” platform. That is Storygraph + readwise reader + audiobook server + notes/highlight aggregator + epub hosting and syncing.

My mac mini network mount has failed for the last time. Gonna move the remaining containers over to my thinkstation linux box this weekend.

I am putting this out into the universe and search results: Do not use a mac mini as a home server if you’re mounting data from a NAS. It’s not worth the faff.

The urge is rising in my to take a punt on a colour e-ink tablet again.... Between Remarkable Paper Pro and the Boox Note Air 5C.

God I wish boox did a tablet with the Gallery eink display tech.

It's this bizarre faustian bargain with social media platforms. On the one hand connection, entertainment and many other things. But there's always a cost alas.

Finally on the home assistant hype. Not for a lot of things, but having the hallway lights turn off when i press play on the Apple TV in the evenings is great.
