Random Q - with #Skype shutting down, I will mean many developing country migrants/families(me) cannot call landlines / mobiles in many countries. Does anyone know a good alternative #VoIP credit based calling systems to replace Skype?? (Teams and Zoom have options I think, but expensive)

I made a starter pack of social scientists who study the environment/climate change. Let me know who else I should add!

I think BlueSky will be significantly better for conferences than any other site. Organisers can create speaker starter packs to allow attendees to auto-follow all speakers. Also a custom feed of all folks skeeting abut a conf would be a big win.
I am part of the latter group 😂😂😂

Fantastic and much needed thank you
Gardening season here in southeastern Australia (Ngunnawal country). Working on my veggie patch using 12 month old home compost and seaweed mix. Grateful for all farmers doing the hard labour in our food systems - growing food is intense work.

Agree. This has been a boring place for a long time, suddenly getting traction. @bsky.app must somehow be protected from the chaos, advertising and abuse that all other platforms are host to.
www.nature.com/articles/d41... hoping this place doesn’t descend into the same chaos as everywhere else. All I need is a calmer, safer and cleaner place to keep up with other researchers and policy developments
In the chaos of Cop29 it feels like a small act of resistance to join colleagues releasing a new paper in Nature climate that charts another way forward: ‘climate resilient development’ for a more sustainable future. Climate and Development is now here too!

Wow, massive influx this past week of people who’ve helped me and their fellow researchers for years over on twitter. Hello! 🫂
It seems Melon Husk has failed to separate researchers from one of their abiding joys: gentle critique of government funding bodies.
This chart shows daily U.S. website visits for Bluesky and Threads, indicating a notable surge in visits to Bluesky's website starting in October 2024. Bluesky's visits (blue line) steadily increased until October and then spiked sharply, surpassing 1.2 million visits. In contrast, Threads (orange line) showed consistent fluctuations but did not experience a similar surge. This data excludes mobile app users and highlights web traffic trends based on SimilarWeb's analysis.
This is crazy, the total website visits to bluesky exceeded threads despite threads having over ten times the user base.
Post a picture you took (no description) to bring some zen to the timeline
Been reading food is life by Tim Spector. Really great update of food science and healthy foods (very UK/EU focused). Great read. #foodstudies
