Townsville will “almost certainly” surpass its annual rainfall record this week, just three months into the year. Meanwhile, Adelaide records driest period in decades and Perth swelters through temperatures above 35C
Not the brightest bit of planning to do maintenance on the railway at dooen in the week of #wimmera field days - basically only week the road is proper busy. Feel sorry for Dooen pub no doubt will lose business
Tom Wolf talking all things spraying at GRDC update in Bendigo
Big up to all the firies still hard at it helping us in the Wimmera - humbling to see how far away people have come from to lend a hand.
Bushfire threatens an entire town and a bloke having to take his maga hat off at a pub is a bigger story for news corp. the age not much better - not hard to feel like forgotten people out here.
Cruising around the district with wheat on the go - the difference with effective summer weed control is ridiculous - could be close to 3t/ha !
Or a mentality of ‘supporting Aussie farmers’ unless of course they’re 50c dearer than an import. Same people that say they support local business but try on shoes for size then order online
Interesting to see #meta dragged kicking and screaming to pay a fair share for content . My only beef is it doesn’t go far enough - smaller outlets need a look in to
Floodplains near Forbes, bit of water on the road closer to town. Mozzies are out in full force in the stagnant pools all down the highway
Speculators have increased their net short in US wheat contracts.
This means they are 'betting' on profiting from a falling market. #agsky #econsky
Dunno how you went with the cooking but those pacdon products are bloody magnificent
They are way better than expected- I was forced into trying the drink- and yep - was not particularly exciting.
Refusal to engage with community on the grounds of what you'd feel were some spurious 'safety concerns' is exactly why companies like ACEN are on the nose in rural Victoria and doing the renewables cause no justice whatsoever. It's consultation, it's not you telling land owners what will happen.
Ha - the old wait til both sides bat adage strikes again!
Yep - that definitely helps - we saw that during wind farm construction - would love for that to translate to more than just a brief sugar hit though
Yep - been a very top down approach thus far - seems like a lot of disruption of rural communities to allow benefits for other areas - but I don’t follow the line that all renewable projects are inherently rubbish
Good points - I’m trying to separate the intrinsically good with bad policy from the just plain bad etc. ownership models are a concern for me as well - might be a very dated view but feel like govt owned utilities that allow others to make dollars are a good idea
Announcement of a big solar farm and battery project here in #horsham yesterday - keen to have a bit of non- hysterical discussion - for me I’d be half keen if some of the benefits of #renewables stayed local rather than being used to benefit others but unsure of potential downsides - thoughts?
Would've been nicer during the growing season.
Would be a change-up from us complaining amongst ourselves
We call them jewel bugs - not sure if that's the common name - all sorts of funky names for bugs district to district - not dissimilar to this map!
Yep - was a great read
I've just set up - I'm involved in grains sector in Australia - loved Twitter for years but just getting lost in depressing algorithms these days
