Rookie Ashlon Jackson talks about her first two days of training camp and the defensive intensity of the #Valkyries:
#Valkyries training camp Day 2.
Some more guard work:
First day of training camp is in the books.
Between Kayla Thornton’s return and a position battle for backup point guard, there’s a ton of storylines for the #Valkyries as they head into Year 2
I wrote about a few them here: www.mercurynews.com/2026/04/19/v...

I believe the main challenge is having the robot navigate on two legs well enough to not fall and smash into pieces. There are a couple of videos of these robots tripping over small bumps and breaking into shards

“The Mohegan Tribe chose to invest in women’s basketball at a time when male billionaires refused. It’s ironic, then, that the WNBA is now prioritizing NBA owners when those very owners turned their back on the league two decades ago.”
We explain some new rule tweaks and then go team-by-team, looking at who's a lock to make the WNBA rosters for opening day, and who has a fight on their hands

The Warriors signed general manager Mike Dunleavy to an extension months ago, per sources. They remain committed to him as the top voice in the front office.

Valkyries training camp FAQ and who will make the team? Plus Day 1 interviews, by @EricApricot
Lots of details on the rules around developmental slots, training camp and (un)protected contracts, plus estimated return dates for all the absent players.
Natalie later: yeah we’re going to go day by day with KT
But at least KT is feeling good…
Valks training camp…
Q: what is your timeline for return?
Kayla Thornton: what do you mean? I’m back. I’m back!
She’s really really good, but coming from an injury. And statistically, she’s inline with other elite players… she was “worse” than Paige Bueckers last year.
The real statistical anomaly is Sarah Strong. She was ahead of Paige last year, crazy ahead of the pack this year as Soph.
2028 Draft.
No, but she’ll be great. More immediate issue: Juju Watkins or Hannah Hidalgo for 2027 #1 pick?
In case you missed it, a bunch of Valkyries just got EuroLeague awards.
* Gabby Williams: EuroLeague Defensive Player of the Year and All-EuroLeague Second Team.
* Juste Jocyte: Third Team
* Kaila Charles: Third Team
* Iliana Rupert: FIRST Team
Congratulations!
I haven’t looked at remaining cap spaces, but it could be that she’s negotiating and leveraging several teams against each other…
Gotta get me one of those
So is it true if a team wants to pit a rookie or training camp contract player in dev spot, those are non-guaranteed standard contracts and they have to be waived, giving another team a chance to grab the contract off waivers? And then the new team could do the same to move to a dev spot? Confusing.
I can post video of specific responses if you have requests, or you can see transcript at my valkyrienation.org or Ingemi’s site valkyriesbeat.com
Really amazing that GSV can have a bunch of leaders in WNBA 3P% (#2 Rupert, #8 Zandalasini, #9 Hayes) and be as a team #11 out of 13. Suggests short-term team growth is possible by redirecting playing time and shots within the scheme.
Valkyries re-sign Tip Hayes, if you were wondering why GSV had a guard-sized hole in the depth chart and salary cap sheet
"I don't know what's gonna happen next but I love you guys to death, thank you. Appreciate you."
Well THAT was a set of remarkable Warriors postgame podium sessions.
Steve Kerr made it clear his future is far from decided.
Draymond and Steph definitely understood that this could be the end of the Kerr tenure -- because Kerr told them on the sideline in the final minute.
Training camp starts Sunday!
I just wanted to tell you all that I love you.
