We urge @governor.ny.gov and the Legislature to ensure full IOLA funding is included in the final enacted budget.

IOLA funding does not come from taxpayer dollars. It comes from interest on attorney escrow accounts and is dedicated to supporting civil legal services for low-income New Yorkers.

Thank you to legislative leaders who championed this effort — including @leaderasc.bsky.social and @lizkrueger.bsky.social, along with Senate Judiciary Chair Luis Sepúlveda, Assembly Judiciary Chair Charles Lavine, Assembly Ways & Means Chair Gary Pretlow, and Speaker Carl Heastie.

Both houses restored IOLA to $102.5M, and the Senate proposal goes further with an additional $50M investment in civil legal services, bringing the total to $152.5M.

We’re grateful to the NY Legislature for restoring full funding for the IOLA Fund in their one-house budget proposals. Civil legal services help New Yorkers facing eviction, domestic violence, immigration challenges and more access justice when it matters most. 🧵

🚨 New York must restore full IOLA funding in the final budget. Governor Kathy Hochul’s 30-day amendments did NOT provide the full $102.5M requested for the IOLA Fund – putting civil legal services at risk.

The Executive Budget funds IOLA nearly 25% below what’s needed—forcing cuts to civil legal services across New York. This funding isn’t taxpayer money and can still be fixed.

Take action now: send letters to the Governor and legislators.

HUGE WIN: @governor.ny.gov just signed legislation that eliminates the 100-foot rule. This outdated policy let utility companies charge customers for the expansion of the fossil fuel system. With today’s signature, we are one step closer to cleaner heat, lower bills in NY.
