By the way, the class doing well is my Magic class, which you helped me develop early on. Very grateful for that!

Thanks! I do this every term and it seems to depend on the group whether they respond positively or not. One class is doing spectacularly so far, and the other is less engaged. I’ll do everything I can, as always!
I did something similar on day one - you will read and you will need to remember basic info because that is what learning is, at its most basic form.
A little disheartened a month in, though
This is amazing to hear. I keep getting drops because I’m perceived as assigning too much reading and making them memorize “everything.” It’s college - we *shouldn’t* lower the bar!
I’m actually happy about this. He doesn’t deserve Italian food
I'm sorry the guy changing the rules on the fly is named what
Screenshot of IOC President Kirsty Coventry and Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the Olympics Opening Ceremony with the closed captioning saying, in error, “the sheep section.”
My personal favorite was this deeply unfortunately timed caption error.
During Fratelli D’Italia.
**Dell’Elmo di Scipio**
A snapshot of closed captioning that reads “greater fight survive the groove above Beasley.”
A snapshot of closed captioning reading “fairly shading style. I swirbul ever love over love. O Philips.”
Howling at the closed captioning fighting for its life during the non-English portions of the Olympics opening ceremony.
Gold star to anyone who guesses what song this was attempting to be 😆
Seeing the number of academics who actively sucked up to Epstein, knowing exactly who he was, is a good reminder that keeping a network of smart people with integrity is the right choice, even if it’s not the lucrative one
I’m not sure they do - the writing is on the wall about NBC these days.
It’s sad there’s no other way to watch the Olympics in the States
The Winter Olympics are the best and no one will ever convince me otherwise
Trust me, the woman of academia are not at all surprised by the number of academic men orbiting Epstein.
Something is getting lost in the discussion of Trump targeting Don Lemon and Georgia Fort. This is an attack on the independent media that is aggressively covering Trump.
Trump knows how to influence the corporate media; he fears the independent press. messagebox.substack.com/p/the-real-r...
The Rubicon was and indeed remains a small stream in Italy. It’s not a raging river like the Po, Danube or Mississippi. You might not even notice that you’ve crossed it.
But you have.
Another one for you, @rocinante.bsky.social, but a grim one
Paging @flaroh.bsky.social! 💜
I feel like some songs get claimed by some teams on a playoff run. The Giants should get exclusive rights to Don’t Stop Believing since the early 2010s, since Journey was a SF band and Steve Perry basically lived in the stands in their postseasons. You want Blink 182? I’m on your side
Always in favor of a cat nap
Good lord. I got $25 from Delta once and that was maybe 2010? Reverse inflation?
Wooo airport hotel!!!
(Sorry, best fake enthusiasm I can muster. Weak sauce. Hope you’re getting a drink comped!)
“the idea that brown people couldn't stack rocks” is the absolute best encapsulation of his work I’ve ever read
The Girlboss Daddy of Fake History has finally logged off. Erich von Däniken spent a lifetime selling the idea that brown people couldn't stack rocks without ET's help. He’s gone, but the brain rot he planted lives on... abcnews.go.com/Technology/w...
The last word on Erich von Däniken should be from the great science communicator, Carl Sagan who wrote,
"That writing as careless as Däniken's, whose principal thesis is that our ancestors were dummies, should be so popular is a sober commentary on the credulousness and despair of our times."
There are very few airports in his world that can rival ORD for its pure shittiness
von Däniken relied on the JAQ (just asking questions) method to promote racist ideas through pseudoarchaeological narratives. These ideas permeated all of his books, were broadcast to and normalized through enormous audiences over decades, and have even found homes in far-right places.
THAT WAS FUN
I am working on these papyri *literally* right now, and this is an amazing image - thanks!
*runs back to syllabus*
One hat trick?
Nice.
Two hat tricks?
LFGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
