The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they're the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive-because of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority.
Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about "Western civilization," while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.

Really powerful, hopeful paragraph from the latest article in the Atlantic by @adamserwer.bsky.social

Can’t even have a proper midlife crisis as a millennial. I need to find a new purpose in life but have neither the time nor the funds for a cult.

this is such weak baby behavior. just say whistles should be illegal because fuck you, that's why. trying to justify this by whining that your big brains can't handle loud noises is coward shit

Democrats can and must make it clear there will be trials and anyone even somewhat associated with ICE will face them. Maybe give a quit-your-job deadline on appeasement and give people 72 hours. I don't know. But currently the plan is to let them murder us in the street and get away with it.

I guess I do think if you participated in the arrest of a five-year-old you are probably just fundamentally incompatible with society. That you are not a safe person for humanity to be around, generally

Imagine if she had been disrespectful enough to shoot him three times in the face and call him a slur as he died.

Q: "Do you believe that deadly force was necessary?"

Trump: "It was highly disrespectful of law enforcement. The woman and her friend were highly disrespectful of law enforcement…Law enforcement should not be in a position where they have to put up with this stuff."

The problem is that adverbs are like Christmas decorations: there’s a TIME and a PLACE and an Aristotelean proportion where on side it feels right and on the other is it now a THING.

New goal: #writing a story so unhinged that no one would ever accuse it of being AI, no matter how many m dashes and semicolons I use.

I wish I believed in myself the way my Libby shelf does.

Someone ping me when they invent an app where I can go from reading the #ebook to listening to the #audiobook by clicking the word. I like to read but I’ve also got chores to do.

(Please don’t correct me if it’s not true; as far as mistruths go, it would cost none of your superior knowledge but all the little pride I have been building up.)

Wishing nothing but happy dreams and a cool pillowcase to whomever shared the fact that Terry Pratchett’s daily #writing goal was 200 words, because that’s a goal I have managed to hit for an entire week now.

Quite by accident, I have discovered that the ā€œMacarenaā€ dance maps perfectly onto the Bluey song ā€œBurger Dogā€.

I reject any argument that says you can’t love books and sports.

The DRAMA.
The LORE.
The absolutely UNHINGED takes by people claiming to love it just as much as you do.

A good story is a good story is a good story.

Forget ā€œdeath of the authorā€; I want to be one of the millennials making you want to KILL the author.

Extensive Easter eggs to my childhood trauma? āœ…
Unnecessarily elaborate allusions to my favorites? āœ…
Petty digs at random people? āœ…

You will never escape me in my writing.

The ultimate irony of ā€œenigmaticā€ is that there are a ton of people who have trouble explaining just what it means…but for the wrong reason.

Having the sad realization that one day, they’ll publish my obit (assuming that’s still a thing), and it’s going to be 99% jokes about how loud I am and how much I talk.

But, you know, glad my parents think ADHD is overdiagnosed or something.

My poor MIL, wondering if it’s okay to get my kids books with a potty training/sharing toys ā€œagendaā€, is not ready for an impromptu essay on whether literature necessitates a POV to qualify as such.

Plus, I’m not ready to argue ā€œtrying to prove you don’t need a POV is itself a POVā€ with modernists.

Question: What’s the best way to apologize to your TBR pile?

I’m reading a book so good that it wouldn’t be fair to even attempt another one for at least a few days.

Is there a line y’all use? ā€œIt’s not you; it’s meā€?

Sometimes I wished I’d gone to grad school so I could make someone read a paper on how Kesha’s music is the distillation of white girl exuberance (which is frankly one of our better traits) and thus perfectly appropriate for a millennial cannonballing straight into the second half of their 30s.

Update: Reached the ā€œacceptanceā€ stage of grief fairly quickly once I conceded that the symbolism doesn’t have to be subtle if you *want* the effect of hitting someone in the face with a sledgehammer (with the point).

Still not dropping my beef with Hemingway.
