Realizing US citizens paid $166 Billion in illegal tariffs and now it’s being refunded back to corporations instead of us.

After building the best public education system in the world brought us the Counterculture and the Anti-War Movement, conservatives in the US began a 50+ year assault to destroy public education.

Don't believe the empty threats from the gas industry that they'll leave if Australia taxes its gas exports properly.
Inpex are looking to invest RIGHT NOW in high-taxing Norway. They're taking the piss.

#Neoliberalism is cancer.
We've done this cutting dance for decades and there is no flesh left in any public space in #Australia. Just bloody bone unable to respond on its own and outsourcing its functions at high cost.

"The price of gas paid by Japan will not increase when we impose this tax."
"The profits made by the people selling the gas will fall."

My favourite line so far from the Gas Tax committee is Susan McDonald "I probably know more than 20,000 people who work directly and fairly closely directly with the gas industry."
C'mon Susan, the Santos corporate box for the Wallabies vs Argentina Rugby Test Match wasn't that big
During its ground invasion of southern Lebanon, Israeli forces left a cemetery in Marjayoun in ruins, with graves desecrated and burial sites damaged.
Did you know that 83% of Australia’s gas is used for exports?
Australia Institute research shows Australia exported enough gas in five years to supply the country for over 20 years.

Not sure Susan McDonald is enjoying this particular session. She was just read to filth by Greg Bourne of the Climate Council after she asked about whether he is worried about gas investment going elsewhere: What I would say is that you seem to be suggesting that the smallest of the gas companies should be kept going for year after year after year, and the largest of the gas companies in the world should be taking the profits as they go forward. And I think what we and others are suggesting is, whilst there is an opportunity to get a strong export tax, that money should be reinvested in the country, not in gas, not in coal, not in oil, but in renewable energy, when you renewing the economy as we go forward. That’s why I say the key that so many governments have done is they have not embraced the future. They just hugged the past. And that’s what I am hearing from you.
Some good fire from Greg Bourne of the Climate Council

Tim Cook donated $1M to Trump’s inauguration.
He fawned over Trump and gifted him a 24-karat gold plaque (as Apple lobbied for tariff exemptions).
Apple donated to Trump’s White House ballroom.
And it removed ICE tracking apps from its stores following a demand from the DOJ.
Remember this.
The Australian Greens are calling on the government to audit every Palantir contract across Government and particularly in Defence, Home Affairs and intelligence agencies and table the findings in Parliament. The public has a right to know the full scale of the risks and the sell out.
"People’s rights to march were trespassed upon & people have been harmed, & many of them will have the legal grounds to demand compensation.
The premier has opened the door wide for civil claims of damages to be launched & won against NSW"

Konrad Benjamin on fire in today’s gas tax inquiry, says those claiming “we can’t afford anything” are full of it, we have plenty of resources to benefit from

In just purely objective terms there’s only one country in the Middle East that currently occupies the territory of three different countries and bombs another three
A reminder that gas is not a vital industry to Australia.
As Polly Hemming explains, if anything, it costs the Australian economy.

Appearing before a Senate inquiry, The Australia Institute's co-CEO Dr Richard Denniss said that increasing taxes on export profits would not push up prices paid by Japan, but would instead reduce the profits of gas exporters.

Lost six years of my social life to fencing.
Don't regret a second of it.
In the 70's the Government owned Energy, it built houses, it owned Public Services and it employed people.
Now billionaires own it all, and they pay you too.
So every year prices go up more than wages.
It's not complicated why things are only getting worse.
It's billionaires
This is the most important thing you will read today – and probably the whole year, honestly.
We cannot let the AMOC collapse. For one thing it will make Iceland uninhabitable, and I would really like my children and grandchildren not to become refugees. But the effects will be almost everywhere.
Thanks Claire, very true words. Unfortunately, judging by the 'Town Hall' meeting last night at UTS, one would have to question whether the uni has any real commitment to nourishing democracy. T'was a dispiriting affair. Nevertheless, onwards we go. Please sign the petition c.org/Y7VMR2HvJV
‘I wished for death’: Sexual violence in Israel’s prisons is an ‘organised state policy’ Palestinian testimonies reveal how sexual violence, including rape using objects and dogs, is approved by 'highest levels' of Israeli leadership
The testimony here about sexual violence by Israel against Palestinian prisoners is so beyond the pale everyone must see it.
It is so bad I can’t in good conscience share a quote other than the headline, which somehow manages to understate the horror within.

Let me tell you about my first experience driving an electric vehicle. I have driven cheap, second hand cars my whole life—I'm an A to B guy—including the one I crashed, an event I used to kick off a book I wrote about the debt industry.
