Quick reminder for anyone who needs it: hashtags in your post are not content warnings. Most every software that does activitypub has them, please use them.

human.json Thanks to a toot by Seth Larson yesterday I learned about the still in draft human.json spec by Beto Dealmeida: human.json is a lightweight protocol for humans to assert authorship of their site content and vouch for the humanity of others. It uses URL ownership as identity, and trust propagates through a crawlable web of vouches between sites. Basically, a web of trust to confirm that pages are written by actual human beings vs just LLM generated slop.

Today I learned #TIL: "human.json"

I feel like every time I finally find a problem worth working on I have to learn a new programming language just to keep up.

Everything is garbage, except for all the things that aren't.
Stop scrolling garbage and make something worth having, even if it's just for you and your friends.
Be cool to each other, and get on the train.

I just spent the last 24 hours building... a free tool to create your very own handwriting font quickly within the browser (no logins, all local processing):

Having tested it extensively on my own manuscript, I […]

I love when new people follow me....

And sometimes I love that I can click the "remove follower" button.

Thanks for coming to find me! Or, in the case of the one AI troll... thanks for letting me click that cool button!

Bohemian Rhapsody, but in isiZulu by the Ndlovu Youth Choir

The choir brought in isicathamiya harmonies and these incredible rhythms that make the song feel like it actually belongs here. Apparently, it’s the only translated version Queen has ever officially licensed, it took them two years to […]

The yulbbs about screen. It reads:

YULBBS is powered by ADS-BBS
(a pun on the ADS-B system that provides data)

Both were created by Sean Coates: https://seancoates.com

ssh (or telnet): yulbbs.via.sc

It uses Swift, NIO, swift-nio-ssh, and dump1080 on the backend.
The antenna is near CYUL, in Dorval, Quebec, a borough of Montreal.
The whole thing runs on a Raspberry Pi 3 in my office networking closet.
Aircraft data comes from the air, not from the net. Be nice.

(Yes, I know that it's not a BBS. BBSs have messaging. That's the point.
This *does* try to capture the BBS æsthetic, though. It's just for fun.)

A screen shot of the “ANSI”/BBS style UI. The main “list” view of air traffic near YUL. It contains a list of featured aircraft, a chart of arrivals/departures, recent activity, and some stats.

Okay, I think this thing is ready-enough to tell people about it.

I made a #BBS to watch aircraft near #YUL (#Montreal airport), through my home #ADSB antenna setup. It's a #Swift NIO based app that runs on a #RaspberryPi (3) in my office network closet, so please […]

Maybe this is a weird hill to die on but when you send me an URGENT message that asks me to fix something for you, I respond immediately with a clarifying question and you then GHOST ME for HOURS I think your issue was either TOO urgent or NOT ACTUALLY URGENT AT ALL.

Every once in a while I look at the sponsor tiers for small events.

My business plan for my company is basically "throw money at cool shit for advertising, get people to give you more money to throw at cool shit".

So, I guess I hadn't posted about this here other than vague ranting about computer shit lately.

I lost all my personal VM infrastructure recently. My provider got crypto-locked and it's all just gone. All my storage nodes, all my (other) VPS services. Everything except firetribe and a few […]

I'm re-reading Transmetropolitan again.

It feels bad that this is so close to reality. Like really really bad. I do indeed hate it here.
