There’s far too much going on in MOTHER MARY for me to spurt out an immediate reaction. So many fascinating layers to muddle through and ponder.
However, both Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel are extraordinary. They cast a hypnotic magic spell as they intimately bounce off one another. I was in awe.

Matt Damon playing a 14th century French knight that looks like a third baseman for the Phillies. Mullet. Beard. Smells like horse shit, pine tar, and cigarette smoke.
Matt Damon while playing Odysseus who also looks like a third baseman for the Phillies. Long, skinny beard. Smells like horseshit, pine tar, and perhaps Mediterranean herbs.
Matt Damon playing a 19th century cowboy that looks like a third baseman for the Phillies. Mustache. Shaggy hair. Smells like horse shit, pine tar, and definitely chewing tobacco.
Every time Matt Damon takes on a period role he ends up looking like a third baseman for the Phillies.

"Genius is a word that’s thrown around a lot, but I think whatever it means, if Elaine May is not a brilliant improviser, nobody is. If Elaine May is not a brilliant actress, nobody is. If she’s not a brilliant writer, nobody is. If she’s not a brilliant director, nobody is."

Happy Elaine May Day to all who celebrate.
I wrote for @brightwalldarkroom.com about MIKEY & NICKY, the ubertext in her lifelong cinematic study of broken men and their slugtrail of betrayals, and a scab-torn, pus-flooded journey to the end of the night for two best friends.
Happy 94th birthday to the brilliant Elaine May.
Watch A New Leaf, Mikey and Nicky, if you can find it The Heartbreak Kid.
Heck, Ishtar isn't good but it is an interesting idea and worth checking out.

Watched 1991's DOGFIGHT for the first time last night. Incredible River Phoenix performance, so subtle, nuanced, and natural. Lili Taylor destroys. And it's a beautiful portrait of a moment in time.

The 4/20 vibe tonight is Kmart in-store shopping music circa 1992.
Nothing hits quite like the soft electric piano of a Cathy Dennis slow jam when you’re shopping for some new Keds.
Few directors can make the lead up to the stand off as thrilling and intense as the stand off itself. Leone doesn’t rush anything allowing the tension build perfectly. Combined with Morricone’s absolute classic score it’s a masterful display of filmmaking at its finest!
Since 2015, Mike Clevinger is one of two players MLB probed under its domestic violence policy but didn't suspend. His ex-fiancée says MLB enabled the former star to keep harassing her, including this call where she says he threatened her.

“The film that you are about to see has to do with a better understanding of our fellow man. We have gathered the information as intelligently and as honestly as within our power and potential. And would like to portray to you as intellectually as our medium will permit in the findings of our research.” Dr. Louis C. Pessolano, M.D., introducing She-Man: A Story of Fixation She-Man: A Story of Fixation (1967) has reappeared recently, largely due to the interest of cinephiles, including Danish auteur Nicolas Winding Refn, who helped in its being restored. In 1967, then unknown Canadian director Bob Clark (A Christmas Story and Black Christmas) took on the task of making a B-movie full of famous American female impersonators in the notoriously swampy, humid Florida summer as his feature-film debut.
