Tragic development in the search for missing Belgian trekker Hugo Huyghebeart, thought to be trying to hike up Haba Shan near Tiger Leaping Gorge. A 38-year old search and rescue team leader, Chen Yanshou, died on 22 April while conducting a search in brutal blizzard conditions at 4300m

But I love reading accounts from Hump pilots so thanks for that!

It’s a bit like the Eiffel Tower. When you go up it you can’t get a scale of how it looks! And pricey. 55 yuan plus 50 for a compulsory shuttle bus and 70 for optional cable car.

Met some of China’s ‘grey nomads’ and their motorhomes

It doesn’t get reported in western media but drones etc are part of a new ‘agricultural revolution’ taking place in rural China. Along with access to cheap solar power, new road and rail infrastructure and online business. Profound impacts on productivity, food security, employment and lifestyle.

It takes a Yunnan farmer a day to spray or fertilize one hectare of crops. Now villages have shops selling drones that can do 20 hectares a day, and are especially efficient for mountain areas. Cost about A$5000

Correction: the Hump route was from India to China, flying over Burma. The pilots used Jizu Shan as a landmark to locate the airstrip at Yunnan-yi

Would need a drone to capture the same image taken by the US pilots.

I’ve always been curious about this 1944 Kodachrome photo of Jizu Shan temple in Yunnan, taken by US Air Force pilots flying the Hump route from Burma to #China.

Today I got to visit the temple.

The ABC has a full time reporter based in China but I’ve yet to see them report on how electric trucks and charging stations are the norm in China. I’m cycling in rural Yunnan and seeing them even in the most remote areas.

In China, the present is electric

I’m in China where electric trucks are a common sight on the roads. They have a range of 400km and there are charging stations in the most remote rural areas.

Australia faced the same dilemma as China in 2004 but made the wrong call While the rest of us count the cost in higher fuel costs, higher inflation and a weaker economy,  China — the actual winner of the war — will be enjoying a surge of global interest in its solar panels...

It’s strange because I’ve acclimatized to 2000m in Dali but the extra 2000m gave me all the classic symptoms of acute altitude sickness. And yet I came here 10 years ago and was hiking along the summit ridge with no problems. Should have used my Diamox but got complacent.

Went up 4000m Cangshan but got altitude sickness so didn’t explore much. Odd because I didn’t get it last time I went up - must be old age.

Eurythmics ~ Never Gonna Cry Again 1981 (OGWT) YouTube video by ArtNoyze

Here’s a gem for the weekend - the first Eurythmics gig on OGWT in 1981 featuring Clem Burke on drums, Holger Czukay on French horn and Penny Tobin on keyboards.

After a joke post I made on Insta about a hair transplant clinic in China, my Facebook timeline is now bombarding me with ads for hair transplant clinics. I did not even mention the word hair or clinic in the post, so Zuckerberg is obviously scanning your images to customize Meta ads

Given that Starmer is the Lord Percy Percy of parliament, I’d wager a turnip that this cunning plan may well win Burnham the seat of Dunny-on-the-Wold.

Having a bit of R’n’R in Dali

This didn't happen by accident, the Albanese Government had the power to stop the extradition and chose not to. Australia should not be America's deputy sheriff, and we should not be acting as its jailer. Dan is paying the price for a Government that puts America and its needs ahead of Australia’s.

Good morning workers.
In today’s team talk I want to make it clear there is no room for grifters, charlatans and disinformation actors in this bluesky timeline.
Is that clear? OK let’s get to work
