I recently replayed Black and I was shocked at how terrible its options menu is.

We've come a long way as an industry, but all of that progress cost (and still costs) increasing amounts of time and money.

(Actually, think of the increasing timelines of indie games too - time is money is too true!)

To be clear; I don't blame them, to a degree. We live in a society and it's hard to make games and eat when there's no money.

…focus testing their games into a bland paste so they "appeal" to the biggest audience and therefore can recoup their costs.

I often speculate that publishers and devs grind their games "one notch lower" just to be sure.

Uh, yes? There’s nothing like playing a classic “good” game and noticing the rough edges and barbs that would be filed off even at an indie level these days.

And conversely, non-indie scale games have become so expensive to make that publishers force their studios to play it safe…

The modern video game industry is a f***ing mess. Maybe it corrects, maybe it doesn’t.

It’s weird to even think the latter, but no industry is invincible and everything eventually comes to an end.

It’s a bloodbath right now, with no resolution in sight.

I am a little heartbroken about Eurovision turning out to just be pro-genocide. I always loved the show, but handwaving the forced starvation of millions and the murder of almost 40,000 people is unacceptable. Boycott it is.
