Yes, utterly. And I don’t hate joy at all! I just feel like the unmodulated level of cheer and people-pleasing makes me immediately worried about my fellow humans’ psyches these days.

This can’t be what people want, is it? To be told they’re right at every turn, and bowed to by electronic toadies? If a human spoke to me like this, I’d be so alarmed and wonder what their deal is.

Of course, all this means is: as soon as they make them more sardonic, I may be cooked myself. 😬🤷🏻‍♀️

I interacted with an AI chatbot for maybe the first time ever today — my freaking dentist’s answering service — and was profoundly turned off by how performatively cheerful it was.

Between that and the obsequious replies I see to people’s ChatGPT requests, I just want to run for the hills.

fun fact: the big air snowboarding ramp at the winter olympics is only 5° steeper than the cheese rolling hill.

Much to everyone's surprise, L.A. played a big part in the Super Bowl. The co-owner of empanadería Fuegos LA designed Benito's casita, the couple who got married are residents of the San Gabriel Valley, and more.

Similarly, we have these billboards around town (because, LA), and my 10yo glanced at this one and said, “who CARES, Robert Scientologist?”

It’s been such a fun 24 hrs, even for me: a person who can’t actually meaningfully engage with the feedback we’re already getting.

But what I *can* tell is how excited & helpful our nascent @miren.dev community already is — if this is something you might want to check out, we’d love to have you! 🎉

“Workflows over Technology” was probably the biggest lesson I learned at @hashicorp.com. People can get excited about specific tech, but it’s really how you use it day-to-day that matters.

It definitely makes my day brighter! Which may also have to do with endorphins + the fact that I’m DONE with my muscle-straining for the day. But also: the good vibes!

I live in LA but am not a person who puts much credence into star signs or crystals or manifestation.

The most woo-woo thing I do is — when leaving the gym after my workout’s over — I whisper to everyone still on a machine, “great job!” or “you’re killing it!” and I somehow think it helps them.

Oh nooooo. And that comes with the added knowledge that you’ll probably be catching that cold next too. 🤧

One BIG plus with remote work is that — assuming you and your coworkers are adept with the mute button — you don’t have to listen to people sneeze and cough and sniffle in meetings any longer.

Also, the lack of germ-spreading. But sometimes the noise of sickness itself was almost as bad?! 🙉

Elections matter. Your vote MATTERS.

A tidbit from yesterday: my parents’ city council ward election is currently* being decided by 7 votes. A person who makes real decisions that affect your daily life! 7!

*they’re now awaiting provisional ballots and depending where those land, maybe a recount.

Also, it’s a core responsibility of the Secretary of State to effectively communicate about local elections.

If so many of his constituents are confused *on Election Day* about what is and isn’t on the ballot, that’s his failing. Not sure I’d be advertising my incompetence so widely if I was him.

The theme of daring ourselves to not close our eyes to state-sanctioned political violence when it’s so tempting to escape into apolitical beauty felt… VERY on the nose for our current moment.

I winced at “The more you face reality / The more you scar” because I can’t say I don’t relate sometimes.

As one of the handful of people who saw the recent Kiss of the Spiderwoman movie adaptation, I have to wonder if its marketing & release were deliberately mismanaged to bury it?

…and I was just reminded that we are age peers and both from Cleveland. I’ve talked about (after a deep sigh) that game/series/season so much in the last week!

Do the poor hot dog vendors have to just stoke their trays of bacon-wrapped treats out there for hours, waiting for the crowds to arrive when the game ends… eventually…? And all those parking attendants who are now working three hours over expectation?!?

Yes!! Absolutely taking the small wins, regardless of how long they last.

I was having lunch by campus today and if things had gone another way… I’d feel obligated to walk over and start yelling at everyone.

USC rejects Trump education compact aimed at shifting the university to the right USC interim President Beong-Soo Kim said in a statement that he had sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Education turning down the Trump offer.

Lowest possible bar, but thank goodness I don’t have to disavow my USC degree today. www.latimes.com/california/s...
