The case study she is using is on meat consumption in context of climate change. She's drawing on the case study described here: gmd.copernicus.org/articles/18/...
#systemdynamics can help you tell a more differentiated story, says Bridget Kopainsky as she makes a case for Systems thinking as useful for interdisciplinary research. "Its the perfect marriage between #qualitative and #quantitative research" #ssnseminar
"You can't manage complex problems, but you can dance with them" - Birgit Kopainsky on feedback thinking as part of Systems Dynamics. #ssnseminar
We're in the room with Birgit Kopainsky who has just kicked off her #SSNseminar on food systems thinking - she's focusing on food security to walk us through her thinking on Systems Thinkings. Jump on now- you can catch up or plunge in. www.youtube.com/live/_vfxaeY...
Sujatha Raman is now pointing out at that Culture is often targeted for behaviour modification, something interdisciplinary research can address. Also, deeply contextual place-based knowledge is crucial, particularly when we want to 'scale up' knowledge #ssnseminar www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I7g...
Robert ends his response with the salient question "Can we afford not to learn from this case study?"
Robert Faggian is now responding from the Australian context, where he has also found that modular/ cookie cutter policy solutions in climate adaptation fall short. Policy treats informal and community responses as risky, rather than an as asset in adaptation.
The effects of heat, unsurprisingly, impacts women disproportionately: Aalok Khandekar is now sharing a tech stack they are working on to model better models for policy and practice www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I7g... #ssnseminar
www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I7g... a fab seminar kicking off right now - jump on. We have Aalok Khandekar in the house (the Deakin downtown house) about to talk about his fascinating/ hot ethnographic work in Hyderabad
Are you joining us tomorrow? Our next hybrid SSN seminar, "Cooling in a fractal grid" is by Aalok Khandekar, in conversation with experts in Climate Change and STS, policy and science communication- Robert Faggian and Sujatha Raman. www.eventbrite.com.au/e/1497797174...
Very much looking forward to hosting Aalok Khandekar from IIT-Hyderabad for a @deakinssn.bsky.social seminar on Community-based climate adaptation. With two fabulous discussants, Sujatha Raman and Robert Faggian. Join us in the city or online!
Our next #SSNseminar deals in responses to extreme heat, examining the rift between policy and everyday realities, the gendered nature of heat vulnerability and possibilities and challenges thereto. Join the SSN and Aalok Khandekar, Thursday 7 August www.eventbrite.com.au/e/ssn-semina...
Come and join us tomorrow afternoon to celebrate 6 years of interdisciplinary research supported by the SSN - it's going to interesting, and fun. All are welcome!
From astronaut welfare to phenomenological neuroscience for Tourettes syndrome, from confronting the ethical limits of AI to developing award-winning climate resilience tools - this is research that connects science with society in meaningful, sometimes surprising, ways.
Join the SSN, Christina Twomey of the ARC, Peter Enticott and a line up of interdisciplinary experts on 8 July for “Doing Interdisciplinarity..." — a TEDx-inspired event showcasing powerful stories of interdisciplinary research in action.

🤯 Andrew Lakoff's SSN seminar (live now, just started) www.youtube.com/watch?v=400P... on 'Planning for the wrong pandemic' didn't start with Covid-19 news trickling in. It started with an emergency packaged hospital designed to shelter North American atomic bomb refugees, being set up in Nigeria..
The SSN and Andy Lakoff going live in 5 - jump on and join us! www.youtube.com/live/400Pt5R... @tdneale.bsky.social
Jump on now to join @profemmakowal.bsky.social and Toija Cinque speaking interdisciplinarity at this #SSN and #DeakinRDA workshop youtube.com/live/1Iu0cP_...
Reminder to Deakin researchers to register asap if you can join us on Thursday at 10am for our workshop on 'Making Interdisciplinarity work for you'. We're adding on a livestream link if you can't join us in person
If you're a Deakin Researcher with an interdisciplinary itch... We worked with the RDA (@tseenster.bsky.social and co) to put on a workshop just for you. This coming Thursday, 10 AM, Deakin Downtown, lunch 🌮. www.eventbrite.com.au/e/making-int...
New PhD Position at Maastricht University, in #philtech, #STS or #techethics of agricultural #automation. Come join a fun group of interdisciplinary scholars!
Thanks for sharing, Tseen - we're joining the Africa-friendly meeting due to a clash but will be there!
Come celebrate DORA’s 12th birthday with the launch of “A Practical Guide to Implementing Responsible Research Assessment at Research Performing Organizations”! With guest speakers in 3 sessions, we will introduce and discuss how the guide can help take action. See you there! bit.ly/DORAGuide-La...
Delighted to be putting on an SSN seminar with Andy Lakoff on Tuesday 27 May on his new book "Planning for the wrong pandemic". Join online or in the flesh! Thanks to @tdneale.bsky.social. www.eventbrite.com.au/e/ssn-semina...
"When you take your own pandemic response road, you need to pave it with your own data". This crucial lesson draws on the point that a "Precautionary Principle comes with an evidence obligation". Future pandemic decision- makers, take note! #ssnseminar #CatherineBennett #Covid19Inquiry

#CatherineBennett is walking us through this extremely complicated process and journey of working together. What an incredible talk on the Independent Covid Inquiry.
During the pandemic, Catherine answered calls from members of the public who rang up to berate her. They'd end up having a conversation. She says this was a key way to understand misinformation #ssnseminar
Transdisciplinary communication was key, but the work came with a degree vulnerability. A leap of faith, or perhaps a leap of commitment, was required.
and even worked at the Olympic Games public health coordinator! The message so far is one of transferrable skills, manoeuvrability and a dual relationship between the application of biostatistics and her work in physical anthropology, dealing with the repatriation of ancestral remains.
