Hellow Womble & Chums.
Read Ian Fleming's The Diamond Smugglers. Not great. Just started listening to Charles Beaumont's A Spy At War and started reading William Shaw The Birdwatcher.
Stay safe out there.

If you get the chance to hear Xueting talk do go. Fascinating insight into old and new stories in China and the changing face of fiction in a very diverse country.

Is it fun?

I do like it when an author pops up and says hello.

I really like it, but I can see why people don't. Read it as a 14 year old and loved it, much to the surprise of my English teacher and me. Probably the gloom that hangs about it.

It may be an adjustment, but I bet authors see less of it than ever before.
Books are expensive.

Reading 100+ books a year I have started to notice I am reading more from the library and second-hand books. Less of my money entering the publishing industry. Is thisbjustcthe way of things?

Books are expensive. I recently bought a 320 page hardback, produced by @gollancz.bsky.social it was £25. For me that is about 6 hours of entertainment. Even paperbacks are entering the £11 to £13 range, with new eBooks similar.

Hello followers of The Dark Womble. Been devouring @guygavrielkay.bsky.social's River of Stars. Power & politics in Song Dynasty China (Kitai). Hints of The Water Margin.
Also listening to Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman. Excellent audio production and the story has had me chuckling in places.
