Gintama is silly on the surface, but honestly it's just the perfect dose of hopecore if you're (like me) a very tired-of-everything millennial.

"Omg these guys are cringe losers" sure! But they're still trying, so what's stopping us?

In Gintama it feels more like "the power of community" because everyone is living their own lives, but they're also doing little things to try to make their community a better place for everyone, and I think that's a lot more realistic for all of us.
