I just had a student project that attempted a queer reading of Kafka's metamorphosis. This might have been compelling except for the fact that we didn't read Kafka's Metamorphosis, we read Ovid's...

I love this perspective on how and who we cite...
This is a good book. If you like space and want to understand the moment, read this book
oh look it’s the thing everyone said wouldn’t happen and hadn’t happened, happening
I know what you mean for sure. I hear phrases like "let AI do a your lit review" and it seems like folks will allow AI to distance themselves from the intimate process of reading and critically analyzing.
Professors can spot AI because we know how to read scholarly work: we pay attention to citations and to whose work is referenced. AI won't make academics redundant, rather AI will make those with the expertise to spot a fake even more important...
It occurred to me today how silly the scarcity argument is in relation to protections for trans and intersex students. So we can have peanut free zones for the roughly 1-2% with peanut allergies but we can't create safe bathrooms and lockerrooms for that same percentage because it's inconsequential?
One just needs to look to Hungary to see where we could be headed. Orban's regime has been a model for US Christian nationalists.
The book is out!
Comes out next month! Available for pre order!
This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942.
I know. I was there in those camps.
This seems to reverse the relationship Simone de Beauvoir first diagnosed in 1949 in THE SECOND SEX: woman as Other to man’s Self. Thus, women understand themselves only in relation to men, not as autonomous beings. Here, men are so fearful of a femininity they are helping to bring it into being.
The most radical, anti-fascist thing you can do right now is stay alive. 💜🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈💜

A little PSA for the "don't speak ill of the dead" crowd: With the passing of Anita Bryant, there will probably be some celebration. Before you criticize, remember this woman leveraged her fame to lobby against gay teachers and led the way in promoting anti-LGBTQIA+ propaganda.
I round up for habitat, that's about it.
Follow that up with "I will survive" and "We are Family" and they will have the queer trifecta...
People love it here but know it won't last, Use nuclear block against all trolls, and there is something called hugging face that collects and logs bluesky posts and makes them available to the public. Caught up. 😆
Check out this cool new book my grad school buddy Juan wrote!
This phenomenon frustrated me when people were making fun of conservatives percieved to be in the closet. Critique a person because of their words and actions, not their Sexuality or gender identity, joke or not.
I have a chapter with Bishop Owis in this fabulous collection on queering the helping professions, edited by Adam Davies and Cameron Greensmith. It's out today! Please request a copy through your university library: utorontopress.com/978148755092...
I helped design an assessment course for my college of education and folks looked at me like I had lost my mind when I suggested we should teach the relationship between assessment and eugenics.
I really want to take your class
Looking for my #lgbtq people! My forthcoming book is called: Queer Justice at School: A guide for youth activists, allies, and their teachers. Out in March 2025! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
This is the power of the right's strategy: bring enough issues into political discourse that any resulting "neutrality" is in effect the same as silencing. My students ask "why is this course so political" instead of asking "how did we let the right to exist become a subject for political debate."
I expect to see many of these strategies implemented in other states. Nobody will have to ban courses or overtly silence academic freedom, they will just slowly cut courses from programs and gen ed requirements.
Yes! I have been fascinated by the concept of kayfabe for a while from a performance studies perspective, but now it seems to have taken on a whole meta-meaning. There is an article here somewhere.
Yup. I'm constantly replicating and reposting online content to simply repeat the process every time a site is sold to a new company ( flipgrip and jamboard being the most recent)
