When I was in a band we had to sign 100 copies of our first album at the label HQ to send out for primos. That was enough. Kudos to you, John!

The 6th Annual Barrydale Analogue Photo Festival is on from 12 - 20th December in the Western Cape. I'm showing some work printed using the cyanotype, Van Dyke brown, and salted paper processes and will be speaking at 2pm on Saturday 13th.

Our thoughts exactly after viewing the Kiefer show at the Ashmolean earlier this year. Great show, but was it worth 16 quid? About 50 early works, sketches, books. Didn't feel substantial enough for that price. I'm used to Italian ticket prices I guess.

But how did he deny it if he was already dead 🤔

Yep. Here in Jozi we all have year-round 'allergies'.

Alternative photography print processes really cost three times as much for every component (paper, chemistry, transparency media, ink, computer, printer, UV lamps, brushes etc etc) for me to pursue, so I'm very happy about the new supplier :-D

To understand the impact of this, multiply the price of a luxury item like a bag of coffee beans by 3. That represents what I have to consider. Would you buy coffee beans if you had to pay 3 x your price in the 'first world'?

Today I found a local chemistry supplier who sells silver nitrate (AR grade) at half the price of the supplier I formerly used. Same grade. This is a huge saving for me as I live and work in a so-called 'developing economy'.

And a great weekend in the dimroom. Four new Van Dyke brown analogue handprints.

Having just been to Herculaneum (was there in 2016)I can attest to overtourism making even the lesser known sites unpleasantly busy. My own observation is that at least 50% of people at such sites are bored shitless and have no real interest in being there.

That's a lovely thing to see, thanks :)

How did One Nation do? I don't see any mention of it in the news that I can access.

A view from the departure terminal through a large window in a cafe. There are aeroplanes parked on the wet tarmac. It's cloudy.

A black and white photo of the interior of a house. There is a pot plant on top of a long, low box, and light coming through a window that shines across a rug and floor tiles. In the foreground is an acoustic guitar in its case. The lid is open. Also, a small dog bowl.

One of my favourites is the couple, who in 1844 were caught having sex in the Bridgend Workhouse kitchens.

When discovered, they pretended that it didn't happen and that they were looking at something on the wall.

I'm not certain if I'll ever love a mirrorless camera. I'm getting used to it, but I'm not enamoured. An optical viewfinder is always on, and I do miss that.
