Sorting hospice care is something that quietly matters a lot to me. I seem to be constantly peppering ministers with letters advocating for children’s and adult hospices.
So good to see Paul from Birmingham Hospice in Parliament today

This map shows the reality facing hospices across England.
Around 60% have already made, or are considering, cuts to services. Not in one area. Not as isolated cases. Across the country.
This is not sustainable.

Thank you to @wendymorton.bsky.social for raising the needs of hospices during today’s PMQs.
Wendy highlighted our data showing that nearly 60% of English hospices have made, or are considering, cuts to frontline services.
This can't continue, we need fair funding for hospices now.

End-of-life care overhaul to allow terminally ill to die at home - and avoid A&E
The Government will unveil plans to improve access to end-of-life care across the country.
We will transform palliative and end-of-life care nationwide to put an end to the postcode lottery in access and quality.
Our new Modern Service Framework will ensure that everyone receives high-quality compassionate care when they need it most.

Spoke at the Future of Palliative Care debate, highlighting challenges facing hospices like John Taylor in Erdington.
The truth is, relying on donations is unsustainable. We need a real strategy so everyone can live, and die, with dignity.

Hospices provide dignity and comfort at the end of life, and vital support for families and loved ones.
But they wouldn’t exist without people like you.
Leave a gift in your Will to a hospice close to your heart and help protect the future of hospice care.

We wholeheartedly welcome today’s increased funding for hospices in Scotland.
This funding will be instrumental to supporting progress towards the Scottish Government’s ambition for hospices to have pay parity with the NHS.

Quote from Sarah Woolnough, CEO of The King's Fund, featuring image of Sarah.
Quote reads:
'Cancer always feels personal – after all 1 in 2 of us will get it, we all know someone living with or who we have lost to the disease.
Waiting for a cancer diagnosis or treatment is both extremely stressful and clinically significant.
The success of the plan will therefore rely on a relentless focus on delivery, not often politically sexy or headline grabbing, but at the heart of improving care and impacting hundreds of thousands of lives.'
It has been a week since new the National Cancer Plan for England was published. In that time, thousands of people will have received a cancer diagnosis - a powerful reminder that behind every policy ambition lies a lived reality for patients.

Welsh hospice services could reduce without more funding, charity says
Hospices caring for people at the end of their lives are at risk because funding is
"The fact they're not funded enough is really sad because they're vital."
9 of 14 hospices in Wales face a financial deficit next year. One has closed. Another is temporarily shut. Services people rely on are at risk because the current funding model is unsustainable.

Hospices are facing a financial cliff edge. Surging costs have led to many services being cut back – just as demand is rising, fast, because of our ageing population.
Recent short-term funding for hospices in England has been a genuine help, but many hospices are running out of road.

Children’s hospices like Shooting Star Hospice, which serves children in Hillingdon, face specific challenges in delivering care.
I raised these issues at this week’s Health Select Committee - good to hear these will be addressed in the Government’s review into palliative care.
