Wikipedia screenshot: "What Remains of Edith Finch received critical acclaim, receiving praise for its immersive storytelling, characters, and presentation; and is considered an example of video games as an art form. Among other awards and nominations, it won the British Academy Games Award for Best Game 2017 and the Best Narrative category at both The Game Awards 2017 and the 2018 Game Developers Choice Awards. "
ok so I finished Ed1th F1nch and I feel like I'm having a stroke
I thought it was...really bad...and the plot was laughable.

And the most insane, INSANE letter from a criminally incompetent psychiatrist explaining that this guy for some reason wasn't happy living in Nowhere with a mostly dead family working at the local cannery??? Weirdly??

Screenshot from the game: a dark room with neon lights and a lot of colourful, psychedelic posters. A prominent poster with a marijuana leaf and the text: LEGALIZE MARIJUANA
Then there's the brother with "substance abuse problems" requiring serious treatment, which seems to just be... weed?

I'd been giving Edith a great deal of leeway on the assumption that she was 16 or something, based on the immaturity of her monologue and decisions, and then she just mentioned that she's heavily pregnant.
Still possible she's 16 I guess but seems a bit unlikely, so now I'm just ???

I heard so much about how good the writing in this game is that I'm waiting for a GOTCHA that makes this pile of rubbish make sense, but I'm starting to feel like it's not coming.
Gameplay is fine I guess, and everything's pretty, but the plot is unintentionally hilarious through and through.

Screenshot from game: a baby's crib turned into a memorial, with memoranda, candles, and photos scattered around. Positioned prominently is a bottle of bubble bath.
I think it's fair to say that What Remains of Ed1th F1nch is just not Working For Me (I know I'm late to the party!!!), but also just laughed out loud at this bold decision to memorialise a 1 year old baby who drowned in the bath with a bottle of bubble bath. Incredible stuff.

I'm all for rehabilitating the romance genre in the sense of no longer looking down on readers, but I wish it didn't come with this hilarious side-order of pretending all romance is extremely well written. Like all genres, some of it is, some of it isn't. ...a lot of it isn't.

Reminds me of a post I saw some years ago from a tourist in a Welsh pub. A drunk patron there kept going on about "Ed" being the source of all of his problems.
Tourist asked the bartender if there was any danger for Ed, given how upset he was. Reply was, "He's talking about Edward 1 of England."

I just wish Americans would shut up! Even the ones I like! Why is it that they're always the ones sticking their hands up to speak, whether or not they have anything to say?! I know it's just their fucked culture & school system that's indoctrinated them into pushy "self-confidence" but it's grossss

Two of my characters, Imre and Anike, are sitting on the sofa, hugging each other. They are smoking and chatting, passing a cigarette to each other.
The artwork is rendered in soft shades of pink and blue with subtle touches of yellow smoke
✨️🏳️⚧️Congratulations to everyone on this trans day of visibility!✨️
I just want to wish us all a peaceful day (and honestly, at least a year) and ask you to support the trans folks you know during these truly shitty times. You love and support are priceless💙🩷🤍🩷💙

2FA is a terrible security protocol. Magic links are similarly ghastly. Passwords are good actually, but only if you have a password manager. Incidentally: everyone should have a password manager! Plenty of them are high quality, trustworthy, and free.

illustration inspired by Charlotte Perkins-Gilman's 1891 short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" depicting a woman touching sickly yellow torn wallpaper on a wall while shadowy hands reach toward her. There is another tall shadow of a figure on the wall and both figures look toward the viewer.
"The color is repellent, almost revolting; a smouldering unclean yellow, strangely faded by the slow-turning sunlight."
I made a "Yellow Wallpaper" piece back in 2017, but I re-read the story over the weekend and wanted to try again. Much happier with this version 🖤

I love how job listings have now started to include "full time, permanent role" under "perks". Soon they're going to be like:
✨ Perks of joining the team ✨
• Full time, permanent role
• Guaranteed salary, paid regularly
• Coworker greetings when you enter the office
• Tasks assigned by a boss!

Lrt: yeah yeah yeah! I hate Gen AI as much as the next person but it's important we understand why it appeals to some people if we're gonna provide viable alternatives and stop it in its tracks

We reflect a lot on what draws people to AI as a source of historical information. It's clear that for many people, the AI 'voice' comes across as authoritative and convincing in what it conveys, even when the actual content is pretty banal, surface-level or just plain wrong.

A strategy I am recommending to people who don’t want to mask all the time is always in healthcare facilities and public transportation, AND if you see someone in a mask, put yours on. The first helps protect spaces high risk people may have no choice but to go, the second shows them support.

Anyway to be clear I'm not critiquing these folks' physical appearance, more their hilarious unprofessionalism and bizarre notion of how best to present themselves as psychologists to potential clients!!!
We all take bad photos. What we don't all do is upload them as professional profile pictures!
