representation on the screen is important--that is true. but what is more important is creating an industry where non-men and non-white and non-straight and non-cis people can have long careers in leadership positions to ensure that representation is meaningful and true.

Also also a lot of dad games are about a guy being a bad dad and then gradually becoming a good dad, and if you tried to make a game about a bad mom becoming a good mom it would get raked so hard over the coals for her being “unlikable” it would make your fucking head spin.

The reason that there are so many dad games is that some men had careers long enough that they both 1) gained the political capital to pitch and then execute a project with those themes 2) were able to sustain a career long enough that it was viable for them to parent while still work* in games.
