Finally finished Dragon Quest 3. It was really great. Honestly all my criticisms are two-sided. It was perhaps too big, but that’s what made it so special.

They all have a lovely gameplay loop and an irresistible charm coupled with dead simple plots, but I do like the writing a lot more when it steps beyond “good beat bad,” even if it’s not a huge leap.

I think the main reason DQ5 and DQ9 have stuck with me a lot more than the original trilogy is narrative theming. They’re not explored incredibly in depth, but exploring “family” and “being good to your neighbor” add a lot to the experience.

God popped off with cats, man. I don’t love them in spite of being awful goblins, I love them because they are awful goblins. There’s a crudeness to them from their personalities right down to how they’re shaped. They charm you, though. They’re so much fun.

Bought a sketchbook and decided to try to learn to draw on my rare downtime evenings occasionally. I’m finding people are made of very complex shapes, but cats are geometrically simple in comparison. Drawing cats is a ton of fun.
