(no, private posts should not be jumping up in the timeline. It's a known bug)
Posts by Speakeasy
Thank you for giving our private features a spin!
Private profiles will appear private to everyone Bluesky (even trusted)
Private posts can only be seen on Speakeasy for now, but once private spaces are finalised in Bluesky, we'll migrate to that format
Please, seriously consider: do you want all of this _gestures at bluesky_ to exist in another year or so?
Because the only two pathways are
(a) Enough of us donate to community owned social media that we can keep community owned server running, or
(b) Bluesky investors start finding revenue options
More than 3000 private posts have been created on Speakeasy.
We're thrilled to be able to facilitate safer spaces in the #atmosphere
Happening now :-)
With our major privacy features released, we want to know what you want to see next.
Join us in April to have your say

In high-risk communities, online conflict accelerates offline retaliation, write Thomas Abt, Desmond Patton, and Joseph Richardson. Prevention requires coordination and commitment from tech platforms, community violence interrupters, researchers, law enforcement and impacted youth.
In case you missed it, Speakeasy supports private posts
Speakeasy supports private posts that are only available to other Speakeasy users that you trust
Now that we've completed our major privacy features, we've got some time and space for some blue sky thinking about what's next (pun intended ;-)
Speakeasy is by and for the community, so we'd love to hear from you on what you think should be next.

Thrilled to announce the release of private profiles on Speakeasy.
If you're looking for more privacy, you can now restrict your profile details to only those people you trust.
Anthropic employees just learned the hard way that when a company makes a promise, it's worthless if the workers don't have the power to fire the CEO when they break the promise
Corporations will always choose profit over safety unless the workers use their power to keep them accountable
Love this
I've added support for it to @spkeasy.social
Coming soon: private profiles
As long as social media is owned by investors looking for money back, they will choose to hurt kids than review their model of maximum engagement

This has been fixed now. Reach out for an invite if you'd like to give private posts a spin!
We're aware of an issue preventing Blacksky users from accessing private posts on Speakeasy and are looking into it
Sorry for the trouble! 😞
If in 2025 a social media platform has this much hate on it, it is because the owners have chosen to allow it.
We need people in charge of social media who care about people's safety
That's why we're implemented secure private posts on Bluesky

The tech giants want to use their tech to isolate us, but we don't have to accept it.
We can choose to use tech that connects us rather than isolates us

You're right @thoughtfulnz.bsky.social , time does usually, by convention, run forwards!
That issue has been fixed. Thanks for pointing it out 🙏
We’re building Speakeasy the way social media should be: welcoming, genuinely connecting people, and nurturing growth
That starts with how we write code
Whether you want to shape the future of social media or are curious to learn alongside others, come code with us

What if we optimised technology for people instead of advertisers and investors?
Huge shoutout to @jpm-nz.bsky.social for implementing our first human centred adaptive algorithm (or AI✨)
As you use speakeasy it will adjust the timing of this pause in the scroll, optimising for *less* time on site
#BigTech can't be trusted. When put to the test they always put profits ahead of doing the right thing.
If we want something better, we're going to have to build it ourselves

I keep catching strays from "technology is neutral" people, so let's set things straight.
1) Technology is not neutral, especially the subset of technology called "algorithms"
2) The form-factor that makes a technology into a tool is not neutral
3) How tools are productized is not neutral

It’s seems fitting that 2025 is the International Year of Cooperatives.
The damage of #TechBro greed is so visible. Never has it been more urgent to leave them behind
Why not start with co-operative social media? 😉
