Except the 30 MPH curve by Grand Ave š you have to go slow for so long approaching it too. Why did the wheels on the trains have to develop those issues last year from going fast through there š

Iāve worried about this too.
But I think to politically sell it, just make the permit free for any resident. Itās to prove you live in NYC (and properly register your car), not to entitle you to a spot.
And the long walk to the subway is not a forever-problem.
Once the Hyatt next to GCT is demolished and the new building goes up, there will be a direct connection from the subway station down to GCM.
Thatās how long the escalators take to ride up. That covers the height difference. And you can exit to street at almost any block along the platform.
The depth is not the issue at all. Itās the round-a-bout route + distance to the subway that is the issue. Simply getting to street level is ~90 seconds longer than Penn.
Also:
ā¢LIRR can reach midtown when Penn has issues
ā¢MNR can serve the east Bronx
ā¢East River tunnel rehabilitation work
ā¢Future growth of East Midtown
It wasnāt the best use of 13 billion and it couldāve had a better subway connection.
But itās not completely awful! Penn really needed relief.
I recall the presentation saying they used weight load data to calculate GCT vs Penn is at 40%/60%, *for peak AM hour* specifically. They admitted it is far behind Penn at other times of day.
Taking ~40% of peak LIRR ridership from Penn is a very good thing.
Staring in awe at the byline right now
By far the worst part about unprotected bike lanes is that the vast majority are in the door zone and thus are USELESS. All they do is tell the drivers behind me that I should be riding in the door zone, and Iām being more annoying by not doing that. I generally avoid streets with unprotected lanes.
The SBS stop is separate from the non-SBS stop. Itās usually on the same block, just next to each other.
Iāve been meaning to ask.. why wasnāt UBS arena built on the parking lot north of Belmont Park? That wouldāve put it next to the main line!
⢠Thatās really terrible, but slight chance the data is wrong
⢠The 125th bus lanes are used by the M60, M125, and M101. Plus school buses. Definitely not a 35 min gap in the bus lane being used.
Both checks combined caused 10 min of delay to the bus. Unacceptable to do this to your own damn buses.
A few days ago I had my first ever NYC fare check, and it happened *twice* on the same Q52 ride. Near Metropolitan Ave + in Howard Beach.
They tapped my card and all good.
Even WHEN it works as intended, itās still completely unacceptable because they stop the bus to do it! Why!!!
Thankfully stroads are few and far between in Westchester. Even Central Park Ave isnāt too bad at its northern end.
Long Island though ā ļø
I get really annoyed when a website for something is not working well and I find they have an app that works way better.
But but I wanted to use my computer to plan this thing!
In Astoria, they did this for 4 blocks on 31 Ave.
EVERYONE at the community pres. said to make one of the blocks ped/bike only (which DOT had listed as an option), because 4 shared block in a row is too many. They didnāt do it⦠and yep cars feel too welcome on that stretch :/
Transit accessible hike or bike btw. Love Westchester + Metro-North.
Absolutely love trails that make you feel like you are walking through someoneās yard.
In this case, the general public is actually getting to enjoy the fields and forests surrounding low density housing. A sliver of the āright to roamā that many Europeans enjoy.
Crazy that when you click on the second train or bus you canāt view transfers.
I instantly noticed it *instantly* because I tried doing M->E/F->to a bus. And nope doesnāt work :/
I left feedback as a bug report, thatās what I hope it is.
Ex: People drive from the Hempstead Branch to New Hyde Park/Merillion Ave/Mineola for better service, an effect that is magnified for weekend/non commutation.
Same story with LB branch to Rockville Center/Lynbrook. WH/FR branch to Valley Stream. Any diesel branch to any nearby electric service.
Off peak ridership is largely just the 4 main electric lines (+montauk branch and PJ diesel section, very dependent on day of week and time of year).
Off peak, the hourly electric lines are almost always near empty until they get to Jamaica or *a* main line. People drive for better service.
That R1 zone is literally basic ass homes sitting on the most valuable land within a couple blocks of an express stop. How was it never re-zoned. Only a few blocks were replaced with apartments in the 50s. At least Forest Hills Gardens has a good argument for historical preservation.
This was an awesome read. First Iāve read from you. Can you do one on the insane R1 zone that wedges up against the north side of 71 Av station. Itās like they actively didnāt want to build density on the blocks closest to the station! Forcing most people to live closer to 67 Av or 75 Av station!
Oh that makes sense! I thought it made gaps on both sides.
Looks like uh.. not very well.
How do they deal with the big gaps it creates in CBTC territory? I have wondered this for a while. Must great a big gap for people at the local stops.
The update is pretty cool, especially since it has bus transfers and platform car positioning. But please never get rid of Subway Now, I will be a paying subscriber for life. I would actually prefer to pay directly vs giving Apple 30%.
The ālive activitiesā is so perfect and transfers are so easy.
First thing I did. Happy to hear they really pay attention to it
First thing I did! Just figured I would throw it here too, in case it helped.
