According to Ukrainian authorities, over 20,000 Ukrainian children have been unlawfully deported and forcibly transferred to Russia and the temporarily occupied territories since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

On 11 May, together with Ukraine and Canada, we will bring the world together to demand justice. We will work together to trace every single child, to return them to their homes, and ensure those responsible face consequences.

Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine has cost more than land and lives - it has stolen childhoods. Over 20,000 Ukrainian children have been forcibly taken from their families, their homes.

Europe must unite to solve its problems.
Peacefully, and in a cooperative way.
This was the key message behind the Treaty of Paris, which was signed on this day in 1951.
A guarantee of peace that changed the course of history.

The European Coal and Steel Community was never just an industrial project.
It was a project for peace in Europe.
A project for shared prosperity.
A project for strength and independence in a world of great power competition.
The very same purpose that still drives our Union today.
It began with coal and steel. But from the very start, our Union was always meant to be much more.
75 years ago, in Paris, with the signing of the Treaty of Paris, Europe chose a different path.
One of unity over division, of peace over war.
From an early age, repeated messages about the country and the war influence how children see their role in society and the future expected of them.

In Russian schools, including in temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories, the day often starts with rituals: flag-raising, the anthem, drills and assemblies.
These routines are meant to shape identity, belonging and loyalty to the state.

Wars ripple across borders, which is why the EU will keep Sudan high on the agenda, including at next week’s meeting of EU Foreign Ministers. (4/4)
Holding war criminals accountable must be part of any settlement. Civilians, not warlords, must shape the path forward. Regional powers must stop fuelling the war with arms. (3/4)
It's good news that donors pledged an extra €1.3 billion.
An agreement on the EU’s proposal to protect critical infrastructure would be a major step. (2/4)
Three years into war, Sudan faces unprecedented death, displacement and poverty.
In Berlin today, I co-chaired a conference on the country’s political future. We focused on reviving peace talks, mobilising aid, and backing civil society. (1/4)
This boy dreamed of a peaceful sky over Ukraine. But russia killed him.
russia continues to kill innocent children, leaving their parents in grief and stealing their future.
Deepest condolences to Bohdan’s family and loved ones 🕯️

Today, Europe is Hungarian.
We are stronger. More united.
To the people of Hungary - you've done it again.
You have spoken.
You have chosen Europe.
It's a victory for fundamental freedoms.
Ma este Európa szíve erősebben dobog Magyarországon.
Europe’s heart is beating stronger in Hungary tonight.
Hungary has chosen Europe.
Europe has always chosen Hungary.
A country reclaims its European path.
The Union grows stronger.
The geographic outline of Ukraine filled with a blue and yellow pixelated pattern resembling traditional Ukrainian embroidery. Below the map, blue text reads: "Light overcomes the darkness. #StandWithUkraine." The bottom right corner features the European Union flag. All elements are set against a light grey, textured background.
When words fall short, symbols speak.
The traditional Ukrainian Pysanky represent our shared hope that cannot be broken.
As we prepare for the upcoming high-level meeting for the return of Ukrainian children, we remain committed to #StandWithUkraine for as long as it takes.
In today’s unpredictable world, the EU is a reliable partner, weaving a global partnership network. 🌍
We will keep building a stronger Europe – not for ourselves alone, but for the benefit of global peace, justice and cooperation. This is Europe’s promise.

Cover of a research paper titled “Weaponised suspicion: How conspiracy theories fuel modern disinformation”, featuring an illustration of a black crow disintegrating into a flock of small birds as it cries out sharp red shards, symbolising the spread of hostile disinformation; an EU Council logo appears in the corner.
Conspiracy theories aren’t new – but their scale and impact have changed.
In today’s digital space, they’re a powerful part of the disinformation ecosystem.
Our latest paper explores what drives them, how they spread, and their real-world impact.

Joint statement on the ceasefire concluded between the United States and Iran
→ link.europa.eu/8qG9W9
I welcome the two-week ceasefire the US and Iran agreed last night. It brings much-needed de-escalation.
I thank Pakistan for its mediation.
Now it is crucial that negotiations for an enduring solution to this conflict continue.
We will continue coordinating with our partners to this end.
After five weeks of war in the Middle East, it is clear that only a diplomatic solution will settle its root causes.
Earlier today, Russia also attacked Sumy (at least 7 civilians were injured), Kharkiv (3 people were injured), settlements across Dnipro region (3 civilians were injured, including a 5-month-old baby and a 6-year-old child), and Kyiv.

Trump pursues energy dominance. Iran seeks to control regional oil & gas flows. The Gulf war shows how energy is a tool of power. But for Europe, it means another supply shock. It must now make a choice: break dependency or remain exposed.

These €1.4 billion will be directed where they are needed most: to sustain the Ukrainian State, preserve essential public services and support the brave Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Our commitment to Ukraine's victory and freedom is unwavering.
