There are some 3,000 patients on dialysis machines in Cuba who are at risk of dying from a prolonged blackout.

Work at root of migrant dignity

I read lan Dunt's
impassioned piece ("Let asylum seekers work", My View, 21 August) and heartily agreed with every word.
Give people back their dignity and let them work; tap into the extraordinary resource of skilled and motivated people, desperate to find safety and a secure life and who will repay the opportunity with an enthusiasm for work which seems to be lacking in this rich entitled country. We depict ourselves via the popular press as willing participators in the malicious, self-interested bile that pours out from political animals of every stripe.
Shame on us. Turn the tide and let the world hear the voices of the large numbers of kind, compassionate and principled
people who still call themselves British.
DIANA PAYNE
MARLBOROUGH,

two things: that one bad apple shouldn't spoil the whole barrel and that we mustn't rush to condemn every migrant because of the actions of one person; and secondly, that we have forgotten what kindness is.
Britain has always been a welcoming land for those in difficulty and in the past we have encouraged those with nothing to make something of themselves, to find sanctuary, to make a life. What has happened to us?
BRIAN MOORHOUSE

As a volunteer with Herts Welcomes Refugees and teacher of English in one of the hotels, I can only say that all the people it has been my privilege to meet, just want to perfect their language skills so they can be productive members of society and pay their taxes like everyone else.
One bad egg at the Bell
Hotel does not warrant such an extreme, hateful reaction to perfectly decent individuals.

Headline: Farage will pledge five deportation flights a day.

Reform leader says £l0bn plan will save money

Steven Swinford Political Editor

Extract:
Nigel Farage today unveils his blueprint for the "mass deportation" of hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers who come to the UK on small boats.
In an interview with The Times, the Reform UK leader says Britain is facing a "massive crisis" and that the only way orward is to detain and deport all migrants who arrive illegally.
His plan would take Britain out of the European Convention on Human
Rights and derogate from the UN Convention Against Torture and other international agreements.

Reform UK, Farage's party, would introduce emergency legislation known as the illegal migration (mass deporta-tion) bill, which would bar those who come to the UK on small boats from claiming asylum. While awaiting de-portation, they would be held in detention centres on "surplus" RAF bases.

Reform would seek to sign deals with Afghanistan, Eritrea and other countries that are big sources of small-boat migrants,
despite claims of human
rights abuses by their governments.
The party would also look to "third countries such as Rwanda and Albania to houseasylum seekers and seek to use British overseas territories such as
Ascension Island as a "fallback" if people could not be sent elsewhere.
Pressed on what he would do if people were returned to Afghanistan
and tortured or killed, Farage said: "I'm really sorry, but we can't be responsible for everything that happens in the whole of the world. Who is our priority?
Is it the safety and security of this country and its people? Or are we worrying about everybody else and foreign courts? That's what it comes down to.Whose side are you on?"
The home secretary would have a statutory duty to remove people from the UK, Farage said. He claimed the plans would lead to hundreds of thousands of peoplebeing deported and that five charter flights would leave the country every day.

How low we have sunk. To still have that fag-breathed race-baiter bossing our politics. To have left the EU on his xenophobic lies. To have failed so completely to hold him to account and to now be flailing around in his fascist cesspit talking about ‘mass deportations’.
A nation-trashing tragedy.

Photo of large yob showing the middle finger at a “legitimate concern”/terrorising-migrants protest in Leeds

One of the extracts from the article:

Protest at hotel for families

There were heavy barriers outside the Park Hotel, in Chichester, where 100 anti-immigration protesters had gathered with flags, chanting "send them home".
Laura Dand, a mother of two from Chichester, said she felt the city was changing.
"I feel incredibly unsafe
and I shouldn't have to," she said. "I don't go out in my neighbourhood alone.
Women and children looked on from the hotel's window, while a patchwork banner, put up to tell protesters that "child refugees live here", had been sabotaged overnight. Faith, a counter-protester who asked not to use her full name, said many of the children living in the hotel attended local schools
"On a normal evening, the
courtyard in front is full of kids, it's full of children playing," she said.
"They would be out playing if this wasn't happening, but they ve been told to stay inside."

This is what Farage represents. This ignorance. This racism. This hatred. This social media radicalisation.
Shame on every single politician, newspaper, hack and pundit who has helped pave the way to this vicious, stupid, nationalistic version of England.

'Anywhere But Here': How Britain's Anti-Migrant Media Consensus Is Crowding Out the Truth Britain's longstanding traditions of tolerance and compassion are being suppressed in favour of a media-driven campaign of anti-migrant hate

The real 'two tier' divide in British politics is between the wife of a Conservative councillor calling for refugees to be burnt alive, being treated as a brave 'political prisoner', and the protestors calling for the end of mass starvation and genocide, being treated as domestic terrorists

The text then contrasts her extensive experience with her reported firing by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, identified as a Fox News weekend host. The source of the information is credited to the New York Times, with "COURIER" branding in the top right corner. The highlighted portion of the text emphasizes the contrast between her career and the circumstances of her dismissal.

Let’s face it. Getting rid of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is to make way for less qualified white men to take positions they don’t deserve.
